I had a colonoscopy last year so I kind of know what the bowel prep is all about. Fun fun

Even pre my 2nd stage Labip work last Tues i opted for a self bowel douche as a sensible precaution at 4:30am!!!

Had to be at hospital for 5:30.... as when scalpels go in you need always to be uber bug free....and with bugs such as cDif, MRSA out there.....every little helps...

Yipppe on day 8 the catheter finally came out.... so finally on my way back to some form of normality....

This means I'll see the Grand Canyon come Sat!!

Yeah, the bowel prep is a pain in the er "caboose", that's for sure.  But it is such a wonderful pain knowing that your surgery is just hours away.

I have the same set of dilators.  My partner calls them my numchucks because they are so hard and heavy.  I can regularly use the first three, but "Big John" as I call the fourth one, is really hard to use and I only occasionally will go through the extra effort to dilate to that size.  Also, if you think about it, you'll probably never run into a guy like that.

Out of the darkness, into the light.
Following my bliss.
I am complete...

Be careful what you wish for....eh?

And in Arizona....you never know what you might run into out there in the desert of an evening!

Weird question.... Why would you need to have a bowel prep for Srs???
Because for about 4 or 5 days afterwards you are trussed up like an Xmas turkey and there is simply NO WAY that you could go without soiling your bandages. Plus the passing of a bowel movement in that time poses two very specific and serious risks.
1. cross infection from the bacteria in the stool and 2. tearing of internal stiches that hold the skin graft in place due to tensing of the muscles in that area.

Also, in the case that a mistake is made and the intestinal tract is damaged, you do NOT want the bacteria from POO leaking around inside you!  That could be fatal.

Ok thanks for clearing that up.

But after a bowel prep you would usually still go 2-3 days after. Im guessing you have to fast a few days before the srs then??

Sorry for these questions just wondering, because ive had bad stomech issues all my lifes and ive had close to 20 of these bowel prep things and I don't understand how they would stop you going to the toilet for 5 days...
