Hi there,

This is going to be a rather curious post. I read a post a week or so ago and someone spoke of a change in eye ball shape.
It is curious because over my time on HRT, (3yrs) my eyesight has gradually got better. I still need glasses or contact lenses but instead of getting worse with age my eyes have improved. I first noticed this with my eyes getting blurred with the glasses that I was wearing a year ago but it turned out I needed less power than I had had two yeas previous. I thought it had gotten worse. Well I had put that down to perhaps the original prescription might have been wrong but just before my surgery I had to go again and have my eyes checked because my eyesight was again blurry. Again the prescription was for less power. Two years ago I was -4 in my left eye and -3.5 in my right. As it stands this year my eyesight is -3.25 in my left and -3 in my right eye.

A long explanation but I was wondering about the effects of HRT and the way it gives us a second puberty and growth in certain areas. I was also wondering if anyone else has experienced their eyesight getting better.

PS New avatar pic shows my new look with my new glasses, hehe, don't laugh.

With my "natural" puberty, my eyesight improved. My optometrist said that's common during puberty  :).

Thanks Meepit, that explains a lot then, that was my thought in that it must be something to do with the second puberty.

Np and congrats  ;D. I wonder if T will have the same effect now or if it's limited to E.

I've been off estrogens since Aug15th Stardust.....and my eyes for reading have got worse in that time, and am shedding more head hair than I'd like....

Eyes are made of collagen.......estrogens affects skin for sure.... it's your eyes flexibility elasticity that denotes how good or bad to some degree what yous can see...

So as tomorrow I'll be back onto a more regular footing (my drains finally come out in an hour)........

I'm hoping my eyes will come back on line 2-3 months from now.....and my bloom......(sigh)

Hiya, Oooooooo I remember the drains coming out, weird feeling. Yeah, I guess it must be the influence of E as you say on the elasticity of the eyeball.

Also in respect to Meepit's question about the effects of T on the eyesight then the answer may be, no it won't. If you went also by the fact that I had T flowing through me for a number of decades and my eyes gradually got worse then T may make them worse.

I know estrogen can drastically increase sense of smell and touch, but I haven't heard much about eyesight before.  I wouldn't mind if it helped mine out a bit. :)

The improvements for me came more long-term with eyes, that's why the fast drop-off somewhat freaked me!  >:-)

Weirdly, I took a 1/4 dose E today (firts in ages) and by the afternoon, noticed my sense-o-smell had improved!

I heard HRT can affect your sight. I have read some interesting stuff about how men and woman see differently, like men tend to have a more limited field of vision in which they focus but in that area it is much more focused than women.

Some theories say this is an adaptation for hunting, with men needing to focus on the prey, and a woman's eyesight is more suited to gathering and being able to scan a large area quickly for edibles, and posibly keep an eye on the kids at the same time..

I've read about this before when I tried figuring out the reason why my eyes started to change around the age of 9-10.. apparently hormones/puberty does change the shape of the eye. I guess it could be the same for older people that need glasses when their natural hormones levels start to fall. Though everyone is different right and there is no one size fits all :S
I'm concerned as I'm looking into laser eye surgery and this may effect the outcome ...if my eyes are changing they are not stable and I may get rejected (for now).. they've been stable so far but I haven't had them checked for almost a year. :-/
I was plucking my eyebrows the other night and my eyes looked to me to be a little green compared to the usual brown so I'm going to keep an eye on that (no pun intended). I've never heard of eye colour changing but that would be cool.

My eyesight was great, perfect, when I was younger. But once I hit about eight, I went nearsighted. It stagnated until recently, it has been steadily getting just a little worse.

Hope this isn't a real effect, don't want T to make my eyes worse lol. E doesn't seem like it helped my eyesight.

I had 20/15 vision all my life until about 6 months ago. All of a sudden I needed reading glasses to read small print. It got a bit worse and hasn't improved. I can't tell if this is due to my eye changing from HRT or just getting older. But I hate it!

I guess you learn something new everyday. I cant recall my eyesight getting better or worse with HRT , or after transition. Maybe its just me ?

I have heard that eye site can change , better or worse during HRT.  I know mine did. I never needed glasses til I started hrt. I got my first pair last month. Of course I am 47. Which is about the same time most people who have not needed glasses in the past , start needing them. I have been told, around that age your muscles in your eyes lose there strength. Yours getting better, I would think that is do to hrt.

Until now, I had not heard that HRT might have an effect upon eyesight.

At age 69, I would expect my nearsightedness to be getting worse - not better.  However, my last two exams revealed quite the opposite.

I was able to have the vision restriction removed from my driver's license, and I now wear glasses only from force of habit or for reading and computer work.
