I speak only for myself but I can tell you that my confidence soars when I have my makeup on,,,,and then when others make comments they usually help my esteem improve. I NEVER leave my house without my makeup on, just cant do it. When I awaken each morning, I dont look at myself in the mirror until i start putting on makeup and even then IM like yuk. BUt as soon as I am finished and spray my face with my settting spray, like magic i smile!

Hi Iris, I never really put much make up on but I think the confidence comes from feeling good about yourself when you do. I just usually have some eye-liner, a bit of powder to stop shine and some lipstick and that's me. Self esteem and confidence are a contributing factor to passing as well. I guess its just about being yourself really and that's different for each of us. Personally I think to much make up makes me look  like a drag queen (nothing wrong in being one, but I just don't want to look like one).

Lol, I've never heard of that expression before "born fish," I take it to mean female? Why is the word fish connected with being female?

Thanks for the compliment, good genetics I think and of course hormones. I've had my issues with my face and there are times when I look in the mirror and still see the man. I read even some girls who have had female facial surgery still see the same sometimes. I guess we are our worst critics.

I also don't leave the house without makeup.  I do it for me, because I still have issues with facial hair.  I do check in on my neighbor with out it, but she knew me before.

I personally don't like the "fish" comment.  But hey to each their own.

I like doing my eyes, but hate having to wear foundation, but like Janet need to for the time being due to beard of doom issues...not for long though.

No makeup for me either.

It's one of those things where we all have to do what makes us feel comfortable. I personally feel awkward if I have makeup on, unless of course I'm going to a formal event or reception or something, in which case yes, but only very subtle use.

Makeup, Hon.  Foundation, eyeshadow, concealer, lipstick.

EVerything is MAC, I dont wear foundation, just apply pressed powder, eyeliner, shadow, bronzer then Este Lauder lip liner

and the next step is to set it all with MAC finishing spray

I've a long-term b/f so at weekends when we wake-up together and have our long breakfasts, papers, real coffee.. slow starts....I'm just in tee-shirt/knickers face washed/cleansed hair brushed and nothing else...couch snuggled up....

For me oft a quick lash curl and lippie fix is enuff to get me through the day, and at the gym I go sans as it would just melt-off...so would be a waste...

people always ask me about what kind of makeup I like\use whatever....I usually tell them that it depends on 3 things, 1. how well it goes on, 2. how well it blends, and lastly 3 how well it STAYS on...the last part is why I use MAC setting spray

Well, I'm still a gurl in training heels, lol... the only makeup I have so far is lipstick, and only one (cost me $20!!).  I bought it on the way to my first girls' night where I dressed for real for the first time...

But my confidence comes (so far) from finally being able to be who I am!  Finally being able to look, in some small way, like the person I am inside.  So okay, I need a wig and clothing to accomplish that, but so far, for me, makeup is a non-issue, as long as I have my lipstick on.  Of course, some foundation, blush, eyeliner and mascara would no doubt help, but at this point I still need to do the "Cinderella dance" pretty quickly, so the less I have to fuss with, the better...

I use a trick that was taught to me but a drag.  Plenty of moisturizer under the makeup, and then use hair spray as a setting spray.

Iris, thanks, but I'm way far from LA... (near Toronto).  But thanks, I will have to learn one of these days.  Janet, I'm more concerned with getting it all OFF quickly, but yeah, putting it ON is something also.  I can only dress away from the house so far, so for instance, I'll arrive about 15 minutes early for my therapist appointment, and dress there.  Then switch back before going home.  So I really don't have much time for the switch.  Starting in October, I'll be attending a Gender Journeys workshop one evening a week, and I'll need to commute to that by train, so I'll have LOTS of time to dress (I'll dress on the train).  So I think I'll get some makeup and start learning that way.  I do think I'll always keep it simple, though.  I want to be a natural girl...

Living where I live, it's pretty rare that I see GGs without makeup. However, a while back, I did try to go out with just my breast forms and androgynous clothing and I got clocked as a boy. This was also when my hair was still really short.

Now, if I went out with just my forms and my femme clothes, eyeglasses, and no makeup (but cleanly shaved), I'm about 100% confident that people will clock me as a girl. I think this is due in part that my hair plays a role in my presentation. It's much longer now than what it was and it frames my face differently when it was short.

The opposite, however, is happening when I step out as a boy. I get clocked as a girl sometimes! While this might be okay with a lot of TG folk here, I would prefer it if I was properly addressed in the gender I was representing at the time.
