A brother-sister act from Newfoundland stole the limelight at the announcement of this year's finalists for the $25,000 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize, with both Michael and Kathleen Winter earning spots on the five-book shortlist: She for Annabel, a novel about an "intersex" child coming of age in remote Labrador; and he for The Death of Donna Whalen, a documentary novel literally cut and pasted from testimony given in a St. John's murder trial.
