What are good things to do before HRT?

I am going to begin facial hair removal, am trying to lose weight, am slowly trying to change my voice, things about makeup and very slowly learning how to dress again.

Is there something else I'm missing that would be good for me, and help things go more smoothly?

My list is similar, plus quit smoking.

Grow your hair. You don't have to have it really long but enough to style in a feminine way will help you.

Thanks!

I've never been a smoker,thankfuly!

Once my hair is longer, should I go to the hair dresser and just give him the picture of a feminine style?

If it's something you want yeah, remember it's your transition and for you to find how you want to be. :D

Oh another thing I suggest is trying to save up as much money as possible of course there are limits but you might suddenly find your employment becoming complicated once on HRT and moving towards a full time presentation having the resources for electrolysis and to weather temporary hardship will be a massive blessing for you.

Let me ask that question in a different manner

"What would be the best way to get a feminine haircut?"

Do I ask the hairdresser flat out? Do I show a pic?

I saw a few youtube videos of people who are transitioning, and I figure hair is a big issue really. Actually, I can't wait to be done with some of my facial hair, have a nice haircut and know enough make up to at least go out to gay clubs or bars. It might not be ideal, but I think it would be a helpful experience and I could know other people who are TG IRL.

About money, I am a university student.. I can't save! lol. I am a med student, and I spoke with my therapist about it, he doesn't thinks I will have problems regarding money even if I don't really pass. Possibly other health care professionals will be at odds with me, but they can't -not- accept my work and they can't fire me over TG, because most medical jobs here in Brazil are earned through public exams. You do well at the test, you get the job and it would be a massive legal complication to fire you.

edit: I really wish I could find a doctor who was transgender do talk about these issues.

About hair: I asked women who have hair that is like mine - thick, wavy, etc. - who they went to for a hairdresser.  I went to that hairdresser still presenting male.  I liked how she cut my hair and we established a friendship of sorts.  When I started coming out I went to her and said: "Before you pick up anything sharp, I have something to tell you."  I then came out to her.  She changed my hairstyle from male to female and told me how to take care of it.

I don't know if that would work for you.  I've always wanted to establish a relationship with a barber or hairdresser, so that they would learn what I liked and didn't.  If you don't know the person, you might carry a picture, but look at the model's head and face shapes to see if they are similar to yours.  I think it is better to just describe what you want - fullness here, length, how much effort you're willing to put into caring for it, etc.

I agree that hair is important, especially when you still have some male features and mannerisims.

Good luck, Maiara!

go to a unisex salon and ask the girls for help to get the best hairdo for transition and ask how you can best use cosmetics to enhance femaleness.
they get loads of women's magazines each week and will have read dozens of TS stories so will be quite blase about dealing with you and you will enjoy it more than getting your haircut in a guy's salon.
you can chat about their clothes and accessories while in a guys place you can't.
you might be surprised to hear from them just how many other TS there are in town.

I never go to men salons because I know how horrid I would feel, but I am glad to know people can possibly be accepting and not freak out if I ask for a female hair cut.

thanks. :)

This might not quite be the answer you were looking for, but some pre HRT pictures and baseline measurements would be helpful for gaging your progress. You can get an idea of some good things to track and what to expect on this thread:
