MRH

Ok so every other month my friend throws a massive video game party. This time it will be near halloween so people HAVE to go fancy dress. With us all being game nerds it will more likely be cosplay than the generic halloween costumes so now I have to decide what to go as. A pain in the arse for most people anyway but when I cant decide what gender to go as it sucks even more. I've been feeling a bit down about it which I know is stupid but just about anything where gender can be related in the slightest gets me down. So with my new short hair I thought "great perhaps I can get away with being a guy." As everyone at these partys are quite nerdy it wouldnt be wierd if I turned up as a guy so I have no fears there. My next thought was I could go as Jin from Tekken seeing as I already have his tattoo but that would involve being shirtless.....and plus I dont look Japanese.  I asked my boyfriend but he gave me a straight "NO" answer to me dressing as a guy. My next thought was seeing as he has a Dante costume from DMC I could go as Lady. I really dont want to but shes the only female character I look like. Well I tried on a skirt and I just felt really wierd. I rang my boyfriend hoping he would make me feel better but his answer was that if I wear a skirt boys will look at me and he doesnt want that but its hard to find a girl game character who wears a lot of clothes. So now im back to square one. The only female character I could go as I cant due to my boyfriends Jealousy and any male character....again somehow ends up with my boyfriend in a bad mood. I want to be a male character but i'm worried that i'll look like an idiot lol.

Go as a boy.

Sorry, but it's kinda obvious and your friend saying don't, well, he has to get use to it.

Well hearing that if you end up going as an female to the party, you could go as Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas (Idk if you already knew this but there is an video game based on the movie) and well she basically wears an longish dress all the time. Or you could dress as Jack Skeleton from the game f you went as an boy. Just an thought and the best of luck.

My Name Is Ellie

If any of your friends are Star Wars fans I can name a female character who wears a lot of clothes. In fact with the helmet on she doesn't bare any skin :p

Princess Leia as a storm trooper.

Sorry I don't know your background and am bad at reading, sorry if I offended you in any way, but that seems a costume that would fit whichever gender you want to portray :p

lol im not sure if I could even see out of that outfit but yes a storm trooper! Darth Vadar! That would be cool. I dont think Lord Vadars uniform comes cheap though.

Nero

Sounds like the issue here is not with the costume but the boyfriend. No offense, but he sounds a bit controlling. You should wear whichever costume you like.
Nero was the Forum Admin here at Susan's Place for several years up to the time of his death.

Your boyfriend has an unacceptable level of jealousy and control issues, and you're enabling him by giving in.

I'm with Nero - go as whatever you like. If your boyfriend doesn't like it, then your boyfriend doesn't like you.

Oh, and next time you have a decision to make? Don't ask permission. He has no right to give or withhold permission for you to do what you like.

How about an androgynous video game character? I know there's a few lists of androgynous characters.

I agree 100%

In fact, you should just swipe your bf's Dante costume and wear that.  ;D

Yes. Go as a male character if you want, if you don't want to "give yourself away" it's still okay because "crossplaying" seems pretty popular.
