Hey all I just thought I would share my experience as I was stunned when I heard the particular nurses comments later on...

I went to visit my 94 year old grandmother in a private hospital who had a fall, developed shingles and pneumonia..

I was only on my second week of hormones and presented as a boy with male clothes on(albeit a tad femmine) and copped this from my Grandmothers physical trainer
as soon as I left from my visit...

"What the hell was 'that' ? " He asks my grandmother with a smirk that denotes disgust after I leave.

"My beautiful grandson" is what she reply's, hurt by his comment.

She died less than a week later, it really sucks she had to go to the grave in that bed with the staff making fun of me....She mentioned it multiple times in that last week too...she was horribly unimpressed.

In my last visit to see her before her passing a female Nurse came over as Mum and me; We were sitting at my grannys side comforting her with light conversation, the nurse says to my mother "Oh you must be the mum and this must be your........errr....*i look her in the eyes, she looks me in the eyes* and she goes 'son' then laughed at me....and trust me it was not in the nice way where your happy to be androgyanous....She then proceeded to point out my small stretched ears and tell me they were digusting and asked if I knew what it looked like without jewelery(as if I had never removed it.....)

Anyway for bloody expensive private health care Im ****ing disgusted. I also expect hospital staff to be a lot nicer/understanding and the prick who actually said that to my grandmother I wish I had got to see again just to shame him in public.

This is unprofessional and unacceptable.

My condolances for the passing of your grandmother. She sounds truly sweet, defending you as her grandson even in her last moments.
Please don't let these experiences taint the good memories you have with your grandmother. Right now I wish you strenght in the difficult proces of mourning.

Actions like these leave me in a strange emotional mix of anger and sadness.
I agree with spacial, this behaviour is unacceptable and you should at least make this known to the staff.

I also will put in my two cents and say write a letter of complaint.

Actually it can be quite the opposite, there are as many ignorant ***holes work in a hospital as anywhere else.

I know of a teenage girl admitted to a Brisbane hospital and after undergoing various tests it was discovered that she was intersex and had undescended testes that were cancerous.
Well, this discovery was a source of gossip throughout the hospital as her mother found out via a friend who worked in another ward in same hospital !! What kind of people are these who spread gossip about a sick girl?!
Her mother also found the nursing staff treated her daughter completely different after they knew her condition, like she was some kind of freak!!!!! 

Please write a letter of complaint Jasmine. Do this for yourself and for the sake of your grandmother who had to hear that sh*t!!!

Definitely write to the Hospital managment, this sort of thing is totally unacceptable. 
Your Gran sounds like she was a lovely person, and I am sure you miss her terribly.
I work in a Hospital and would be sacked if I behaved in the way you have described.
They deserve to have someone rip them a new one.

Write an letter of complaint to the hospital, that was uncalled for and very unprofessional of the hospital staff. *big hugs* I am sorry to hear that about your grandma, she sounds like she was an sweet person. And don't blame yourself for how thinggs was unfortunately during her last days with you.

I agree with everyone else. You should write a letter about this as it is very non-professional.

My condolences for the passing of your marvelous Grandma.

As others have said a letter of complaint is needed. These uncaring excuses for health workers need to be dismissed. I also work in a hospital and if I saw or heard of any of my staff getting even a little close to this behaviour they would be fired on the spot.

If a person is so uncaring of other individuals, they should not be allowed to work with people who need care.
