im in high school and i play hockey. this year i will have to play on the GIRLS hockey team. i dont want to play with them, but my family and coach and other people think i have talent and i shouldn't quit. i can't decide what to do! i like hockey but i hate practicing with them and i wud have to be with them everyday. :/ advice please?

Oh, wow, that is a really tough situation.  and I'm sorry that I don't really have any advice.

There's no way you can get put on the boys' team?  If there is one.
Maybe you could look into hockey teams that aren't through your school and that would allow you to play on the boys' team.

As for me personally, I'm not the kind of person who can just let people treat me like that.  I would either quit the team altogether, or stay on the team but continue to fight it and not let them forget for one second that I'm a guy.

But you do whatever you got to do.

That's tough man, I'm sorry. It's all up to you, I don't know what year you're in so I don't know how long you would have to stick it out but just do what you think is best. I personally would fight it. I've hear of a few bio girls getting on the boys football team in the past because girls football was touch, not tackle.

Maybe if you researched cases like that you could build an argument, (more like a group of reasons) including being a trans guy forced with the girls, as to why you should be allowed on the guys team? If it's what you love just don't give it up even if you have to find another place to play unless it's what you truly want. Just my advice.

Thanks guys, yeah im only in 8th grade so I wud be playing with the girls for a while still. I really want to be put on the boy's team, but I might be switching schools and going to my new school stealth as a guy. soo idk if it wud even be worth the fight. oh well i have maybe two weeks to decide. thanks for the advice though

That definitely sucks...but at the same time, I wish I had kept up with the sports I played in middle school, since I would've been a lot more built and in-shape as a guy, rather than having to bust my butt at the gym.  Plus, if you can keep up with the boys once you transition, that'll be awesome.  You'll know when it becomes too much, though.  if you feel like you can't handle it, then don't--at the end of the day, you're a great guy whether or not you play hockey.  don't beat yourself up over it, and don't let your family/coach either!  it's your choice! 

That sucks. I quit all the sports I played as soon as I would have had to join a girl's team to continue. It sucked, I was miserable, but I just couldn't tolerate being on a girls' team.

I've learned since that there usually aren't official rules preventing girls from playing on boys' teams, and girls (even cis girls) have successfully sued and won the right to play. It may be as simple as just asking explicitly - talk to the coach of the boys' team and tell him what you want/need.

and kyril- i know, i can't stand playing with the girls. the locker room is terrible lol they talk about nails and boys     and i'm hopefully going to talk to the boys coach in the next few days

This is what stops me from playing tennis at my HS. I considered it, but there's no co-ed team, and I didn't want to draw attention to myself if I could get on the boys' team, so I can't play  . I would talk to the coach/councilor/principal/etc. and see if you can join the boys' team if you're comfortable with that. If not, stay with the girls' team if you feel you can handle it (I couldn't). If you don't think you can handle it, or your coach/councilor/principal/etc. says no, look for a co-ed/boys' team outside your school to play on. After that, can't help you much.
