Hey all.
I've got a dilemma here. I recently bought two new pairs of eyeglasses. I bought an insurance thingy on one of them with the eyeglasses place. Well, that pair's been stolen. I called the eyeglasses place and told them the deal. However, they said they need at least a piece of the glasses to send in in order to replace it. No such luck. I'm wondering if I should give them the police report as proof. The catch is that I guess I wasn't passing very well in front of the cop or maybe because my old name came up. He got the pronouns all wrong when talking to me. I was tired and not up to correcting him. I haven't got the report yet but I'm assuming I'm listed as female in the incident description, despite being legally male.
The thing is I've been in this eye place a lot and these are pretty much the first ladies I passed with. They're really great to me. Maybe because they think I'm a young boy. If I give them the report and I'm listed as female, I'm going to feel stupid. I suppose I could try to explain it away as an error...
So the facts are:
the eyeglasses are expensive because of my prescription and I'll lose a lot of money
I don't even know if the police report will make a difference and get the glasses replaced
I might be outing myself and it would just make me feel bad
I don't know what to do. If I did take the report in, how should I handle it? Should I mention the gender discrepancy myself and try to laugh it off? Or ignore it unless it comes up? Of course, if my old name is listed along with the current one (I had to give it to them), there's little I can say. It's going to be obvious.
Help.
Edit: I should mention that coming out to these ladies would defeat the whole purpose to me as they're not people who need to know. I would rather them gather what they will from the report on their own, than come out and tell them I used to be female.
I still need to go back to get the surviving pair fitted and may need to again in the future. So, will probably have little choice but to continuing visiting the store.
