My doctor prescribed Finasteride (initially within Propecia, but more recently just as a generic tablet) to deal with my hair loss, which it does pretty well. He gives me tablets, which I then cut up.

At 1/4 of a tablet  I have very few side-effects. Many people report a reduced sex-drive. But since I have never possessed a conventional male sex-drive - ie. being led by your dick and needing to have sex NOW!! - that wouldn't make any difference to me.

At 1/2 of a tablet  there are two side-effects that become apparent after a few days' use. First, my orgasm dries up if/when  masturbate. Second, I feel a definite itching in my nipples, like I've been bitten twice by a particularly vicious mosquito!  :)

Is that the syndrome you were talking about?

I have noticed the same thing, I was taking because I didn't have a good pill cutter and was mangling the pills trying to cut them into fourths, and I also had some slight BPH so I figured it couldn't hurt since they give  for BPH (that's how I get the doc to get insurance to cover it.)

But yes ejaculate became a lot less on , never noticed the nipple thing though. I have a better pill cutter now so going back to . This hasn't been much of a problem though as I rarely masturbate, sorry if TMI.  :P

There would appear to be a number of problems associated with a loss of male sexual function.

I've just done a quick checkup on this drug. I confess, I'm not familiar with it.

It's primary function seems to be a drug treatment for enlarged prostate. It also seems to slow down male pattern baldness.

While I have little interest in sex, personally, I think I'd prefer to live with male pattern baldness rather than mess about with some of the glands inside my body.

post finasteride syndrome is considered beneficial for us, it proves that after certain time on finasteride, the side effects are permenant, and irreversible inhibition of 5 alpha reductase is achieved, which result in feminization, but till now there is not enough data about the level of testosterone and DHT .

I have experienced this side effect, as i stopped finasteride for 4 months, and still experience ED, and breast tenderness, shrinkage of genitalia.

so what i want to know if there is any other data availiable
thanks

Yes I have heard this too, if I was not trans I would probably not take it, but since I don't really see any of those things as bad and they will happen anyway once I begin HRT.

How long did you take it before you got those symptoms because I have only been on it about 2 months and haven't seen those symptoms? Only a lessening of seminal fluid in ejaculate.

This most certainly is not a good thing.

5AR is responsible for more than just converting DHT to T, it functions in the creation of 2 other neurosteroids.

Inhibition of 5AR has a number of troubling side effects that have been raised, the worst of which are neurological like brain fog.

I have taken finasteride in various forms and doses (apologies for previous details) for several years, with occasional breaks. I have not noticed any testicular shrinkage, which would not bother me in the slightest, or brain fog, which would certainly bother me a LOT!

As with every medication. Different people experience different reactions.

Most suffer no serious side effects.

Some have reported quite serious and persistent side effects.

It's your body, the riskvsreward is something only you can ultimately decide is worth it. I'd just like to help people keep a realistic view of the risks.  ;D

Totally agree ... I was just reporting my own experiences. But I've also read some horror stories. As you say, the side effects of finasteride, as with all drugs, vary with each individual. One thing I would say tho, is that some of the side-effects which are most troublesome to regular males - eg. loss of libido, dry orgasms, impotence, etc - are much, much less of a problem to anyone who is transgendered. And if these side-effects ARE a big problem for someone considering transition, that might be a warning sign that maybe they're on the wrong path.

But again, these are just my observations and suggestions ... not trying to start any arguments here!
