I have fairly short light brown hair, with little bits of blonde in.  I want to dye it a natural blonde look, like how I used to be.  Does anybody know the best way to do this as I have never done it before and I'm scared the colour will come out wrong!

first time dyeing seems to be a hit or miss affair and salons seem to prefer doing little tests first so can you find a helpful salon or a woman friend who has done her own a few times?

I once tried to go blonde from light brown and ended up sludgy mustard colour.

I had allot of blonde in my hair in younger days but most of it has either darkened or turned gray as I've gotten older

I use Nice N' Easy with the tri-color so it gets natural looking highlights... The shade closest to my original color is med. champagne blond  :icon_chick:

Do you just use the one product, the Nice N Easy, or do you use a bleach or something as well? Any tips for first timers?!

When I was younger I would get a bleach kit and a toner like they use in salons (My girlfriend at the time showed me how to do it)

I was also doing music then and we'd color our hair a different color every few months

Now that I'm getting old and grey I just use the Nice N' Easy kit... It works pretty well... Just follow the instructions

maybe i just got lucky but i simply bought the cheapest stuff on the shelf and dove right in. it's an all-in-one package which provides everything you need.

Well, no, the very first time i got my hairdresser to do it but when the roots came in, I did it myself, and have ever since.

As far as I can see, unless you have some unusual situation it's hard to mess it up.

Just follow the instructions, particularly about how long to leave it on.

That's why I like the Nice N' Easy kit... It's one of the least expensive and everything is in the box

It lives up to it's name... Easy to follow instructions and it comes out nice  :)

If you have the cash, I'd recommend going to a colorist.   Blonde is tricky because you can make your hair some strange colors.

I actually had Bayalage done on my hair recently and it looks awesome.  It's an almost strawberry red now.  (I'm naturally a coppery auburn.)  It was a little pricey (It takes a lot longer to do bayalage than regular highlights/dying) but well worth the cost.

Ms.Behavin

you can go about 3 (maybe 4) shades lighter without going to a two step process.  So you should be able to get a dark blonde or maybe a medium blonde in one step.  maybe put a dab of 10vol proxide to get it a little lighter if need be

Also if your in the US, I can recomend Sallys Beauty supply.  They are open to the public.  It's professional products.  For a single step.  Use wella color with application lotion,  Grap a mixing bottle and a pack of gloves and your off.  You'll have a wider range of colors to choose from (you can also mix colors for a custom color).

Overall its less expensive then the drug store kits as you reuse the bottle and I find better for the hair too.  You'll get 2-3 treatments per tube of color and 6-8 per bottle of activation lotion.

Oh follow the instuctions and check out the wella web site for more info.  There is a color chart on the site which is pretty handy for selecting the right color for your natural hair color

Plus they have a good selection of shampoos and conditioners, and pretty nice makeup.  prices are pretty good too.

Does Bayalage look natural like a bunch of blonde colors mixed in?

I want this blonde hair color

Used Shakira because her hair is pitch black, she's Hispanic.

So I know she has to do it often to maintain blonde hair locks....

She likely had her hair died and then the highlights are Bayalage ...

Basically the bayalage is a highlighting technique that's painted in to make it look more natural.   It's a bit hard to explain, but it adds a lot of depth to the hair's color.

You bleach your hair, and then you redye it with a permanent blonde color or a temporarily color.

Ok.. so I messed up!
First, me and a friend bought a blonde hair dye on Friday, not too light but not too dark.  We put it on my hair and it went an strawberry blonde kind of colour..not the look I was going for! I don't think we left the dye on long enough!

So she asked her friend who is a hairdresser could she fix it, so we went to her house the next day and she said we will need to buy a light blonde dye to take the orange out of the hair and then we can tone it down.. so we got a light blonde and dyed it again, and it just went worse!

The very front of my hair is kind of coarse hair and just wouldn't take to the dye at all... so she said the only way to fix it is to bleach it.  I didn't wanna do that, but it was the only option! So then we bleached my hair (which stung!) and then put a toner on it... the colour was horrendous, just nothing like the kind of blonde I originally wanted, it was like white/yellow.

So THEN we went back to the place we bought the dye from and bought a brown, in a last attempt to get my hair back to the way it was.  She said I needed a dye with warmth in, so we went for a decent colour brown... so we put this on, I could see my hair get darker as I waited and then washed it off, it was STILL blonde! Although darker than it was before, which was better!

We dried it off and I decided it would just have to stay like this until I go to a salon, so that's what I've done, I have an appointment at a hair salon tomorrow afternoon and just hope they can fix it!

Never dye your hair at home...lesson learned!

Sorry it didn't go real well, but it was the first time trying it... The first time I tried to color on my own it didn't come out quite as well as I expected either... But the music scene at the time involved weird hair so I wasn't real bothered by it

Now that I'm older and being more lady like it would really bother me if it came out a brash color
It took some trail and error but I've found a product with a tone that works for me

Everyone's hair is different and some take to it easier than others... Just be careful not to color it too often because you don't want to totally fry your hair... Be sure to tell the stylist everything you've done so far... They may want you to wait awhile before doing anything more

Best wishes for something to work out for you

*HUGS*

I remember (painfully) when I tried to do mine it came out pumpkin orange-you think strawberry blond is bad! OMG, thankfully I have a friend who is a hair dresser and came to my rescue. I haven't tried that again since. Now my hair has alot of grey in it and takes blond very well but the sun bleaches it out quick if I am outside alot.
