DMV employee tells transgender woman: You're going to hell

A California Department of Motor Vehicles employee is accused of sending a letter to the home of a Bay Area transgender woman calling her "an abomination" and telling her that she is going to hell.

A press release from the San Francisco Transgender Law Center claims that Amber Yust, a transgender woman living in San Francisco, went to the San Francisco Department of Motor Vehicles earlier this month to change her name on her driver's license.

Last Monday, Yust received a letter from the person who had processed her name change at the DMV. In the letter, which had been mailed to her at home, the DMV employee quoted from the Bible and stated that Yust had made a "very evil decision." The strongly-worded letter told Yust that she was "an abomination" and said that homosexuals should be put to death.

Quote"This was an egregious act committed by a government employee," said Masen Davis, Executive Director of the Transgender Law Center. "Transgender people deserve to be treated with respect at agencies like the DMV. What happened to Amber is despicable, and we intend to do everything we can to hold the responsible parties accountable and to prevent this from happening again."

I would think that such an abuse of a government position is a serious criminal offense whoever it is directed at.

Telling anyone they should be killed and suggesting a fate of hell.

I think Thomas is going to find out first hand what being fired is all about.  Let his version of a hateful God pay his bill.

Had it been me, Thomas and I would meet to discuss it,  IN A COURT OF LAW. 

Looks like someone is getting their SRS funded by thomas or the state or both.  Wow, thats a lot of laws broken...

The misuse of religion and the Bible is bad enough. Though I tend to believe this is just an excuse. Much like all these idiots who claim religion to justify their disgraceful behaviour.

This is threatening behaviour, malfeasance, and gross misconduct.

This is, by any defination, a criminal matter and the person responsible should be arrested.

Well you cant arrest him for being himself, but during business you are supposed to do your job accordingly and not misuse private information for personal use.  So at most fired, but not arrested.  Typically i find people that think this way and refuse to see any reasoning as people that have issues outside of what they hate.  Their lives are going poorly so they need an outlet, hating TS, blaming TS or Gay, or a race on your problems is easier then realizing you take responsibility for your own state in life.  Thats why hate is so popular, people dont have a home, they are abused by their family, so they join the KKK or other hate groups to fit in.  Sad but thats the way the world is, we are kind of the scapegoats for the stresses of ignorant people.

Ew. This is what happens when people take religion too seriously and want to salvage people from Hell. I'm pretty sure the Thomas in question really did feel he had to save the person who received the letter. One more reason to add to my "Why Not to Adhere to a Religion" list.

This is just hilarious.... sure it's shocking at first glance but then the lols just roll in. wow.... I'd take him to court for an easy win and a huge fat chunk of money.... laughing the whole way.

If you are desperate for SRS finding an found a cold person serving you at the DMV, what better way to get funding than to mail yourself a letter and claim it is from the DMV clerk. How many letters do you sign with only your first name when sending it to anyone outside of family.  The accusation may be true or it may not be.
I want to know which before I vilify either.

I'm waiting for an investigation before I weigh in on this particular situation. Could be just another amputated finger hoax.

But even if it is a hoax, so many idiots out there actually think the same things that the letter says.

If it is real, then it is the most polite sounding hate letter I have ever seen.

If I got a letter like that, I would probably have a good laugh and then show it off to everyone I know so we could laugh at it together.   I used to keep a collection of weird angry letters strangers had written me when I accidentally parked in their parking spot or something like that.  I remember one said, "I hope your child grows up to be retarded and deformed and miserable," and I don't even have a child, and all I did was park too close to their driveway (they could still get in and out).

Anyway, assuming this is legit, the person should be fired for misuse of private information and harassing a customer.  Government jobs tend to have clear rules about when you can fire someone, and when you should fire someone.  Violations that serious, accompanied by a paper trail, would probably put one in the "should be fired" category.

I would imagine that such an unprofessional behavior of a State of California employee will not likely be well tolerated...
