Hi all, my name is Becca...I used to post here often, but for a couple reasons kind of, well, stopped.

Anyway something has come up that is dear to my heart, and I wanted to let you know about it: the Oregon Health Plan standard reservation list is open and drawing again soon. I've mentioned it to several different Oregonians and none of them knew anything about it. Basically it is the state medicaid program (gasp, socialized medicine) but it works reasonably well. Names of uninsured, lower-income adults are routinely drawn in random batches to receive applications and good, complete, and low cost if not free health insurance. It is really an amazing program. It's usually closed to new applicants, but we have managed to find the money to open it, and on November 17 ten thousand new names will be drawn from the reservation list and sent applications.

If there are any uninsured Oregonians here, and I know there are, I can not stress it enough to GET ON THE LIST. It might take a while but eventually you will probably get coverage. OHP Standard includes all the normal stuff and emergency coverage, physician visits, most mental health, most of our hormones (all of them if your id says "f")...it has saved me huge amounts of money and it has been comforting to know that they have my back while I transition if something were to come up. Can you imagine getting a clot and not being able to afford warfarin or surgery to fix it? They have been very good to me and have always treated me with the utmost respect, I wish the whole state could be on the plan.

Anyway I'm starting to ramble, so here is the link: http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/open/

I hope you all are well and transitioning happily  :-* I'm not going to check this routinely as it's more FYI, but feel free to email me at becca_leavitt@rocketmail.com with any questions about OHP.

kind regards,
becca

Honey, THANK YOU!

Oh, my!  I moved to Oregon 6 months ago and am in Portland.  Funny thing is, I just very recently underwent a job loss.  This is great news!  Like, I simply cannot thank you enough for this information.  I will do just like you said and get on this list.

E-hugs ... I'm grateful!
