There's a blog post at Nerdy Apple Bottom which seems to be getting a lot of attention at the moment and I have to say that I'm a bit bothered by one or two aspects that the blogger and most of the commenters don't seem to have noticed. Well, I have and I just want to briefly set out my concerns here. This is a sketchy (by my standards, at least) post because I'm having a day where I'm so utterly fed up with finding myself always having to explain, to give trans 101s, that it's an effort even to put a sketchy post together...
Okay, well, the gist of the story is this: cis woman's five year old child (assigned male at birth) decides he wants to attend his school's Hallowe'en fancy dress event as the character Daphne from the cartoon franchise Scooby-Doo. Child's mother purchases costume, accompanies child to school on the day and is met with severe disapproval from several other parents present. Child's mother writes blog post about it (link here).
