I was a little curious what it would be like to get stopped by the police, while En femme, and I eventually found out . Here's how it went.

Yesterday I had to put 800 miles behind me. If I don't make many stops and I get going early, I can do it in one day. But that means I have to travel at the maximum speed limit or above. So as I was going through Sacramento. I was in the fast lane, towing a trailer, going about 75 mph. (I know you cant be in the fast lane with a trailer). So I get pulled me over by a police officer. Let me first tell you, I never get let off for speeding. In fact they usually walk around my car giving me stupid fix-it tickets for dumb stuff. I don't know, cops and I just don't get along. Anyway he comes up to the window. I am En femme. He says "Afternoon Ma'am, Did you know you were going 75 in a 55, and it's illegal to be in the fast lane with a trailer and you weren't wearing your seat belt?" (I was wearing the belt, I just had it pulled down, as it irritates my breast). He said "can I see your drivers license, proof of insurance and registration" I gave him the license and I could not find the insurance card or the registration. He looked at the license and said, "Do you still go by this name and is all the rest of the information correct?" I said, "Yes" and he went back to his car. I frantically looked for the registration and insurance card, It took him no longer then one minute to return. He said, " Keep the speed down, stay out of the fast lane, wear your seat belt the way it was meant and next time you should have you registration and proof of insurance accessible, have a nice day Ma'am."  Wow, that has never ever happened to me!!!!  I guess there are some little benefits from hrt.

Looks like the 'how to deal with a ->-bleeped-<-' training is starting to pay off.
Glad he didnt give you a ticket or a hard time.

I carry a couple of letters from my docs for the eventuality that they might come in handy, which one hopes will not be the case.

As for seatbelts, I find that mine seems to fit a lot better several months into HRT than before.

One thing about California I actually admire . They actually enforce their laws almost fairly. I have been a professional driver for years . Here in Virginia , the laws are enforced based upon too many factors . We have idiots driving the left lane doing whatever they please . Most police officers herewill sight ya for expired state inspection , expired tags or lights out faster than the EVER will on  "REAL" infractions . I noticed the laws are enforced pretty much the same as when I still lived In Texas too. If you were White , long hair , LOOK OUT !!!!!!! ellen
See ya on the road folks !!!

I was always so terrified early on when I would drive en femme.  My head would be swiveling around like a radar dish.  Trying to see if I got read.  And any time I was near a police car I would drive almost too slow so I wouldn't get pulled over.  I think I would have jumped out of my skin if I had been pulled over.  I kept telling myself that most cops have seen much, much worse so I was always of the mind to be respectful.

I never got pulled over then, but I did once when I was on my way to see Pat in WI.  The was after my transition.  I was speeding and I got pulled over.  I was completely calm, other than the $300 dollar fine I had to pay.  The officer was quite polite and asked me very nicely to slow down as he handed me my ticket. *grumble*

Anyway, I'm glad that everything turned out ok, Erocse.  There *are* some perks to being a girl, you know...

Terriffic story & outcome!!!!

BTW, there's a lil' seatbelt adjuster thingee you can buy for a few bucks to keep it off your neck or whatever--I imagine depending how high up the belt you keep it, might be able to save your mammary the irritation, too.  I got mine at Walgreen's....

Great Story.   :D

I too have had my share of experiences having gone full-time almost a year ago and driving truck all over the country.  By a fortunate twist of fate, when the State of Arizona issued my CDL they put 'F' under sex while everything else is correct.  (Male name, etc...)  So the usual initial response from DOT, State Troopers, etc...  is a double take of my CDL and the question, "Is everything correct ma'am?"   For the most part I have not had any problems and have actually noticed that I have been let off far more easily on various infractions than my male counterparts have been.  The states I have had the most pleasant experiences in have been Texas, (yes, I said Texas) Louisiana, and California.  Kansas though...   (I have actually told my company that I will not drive in Kansas, and if I am forced to I will need bail money.)

Have a great day.
Stephanie

Wonderful, Erocse!  I'm glad it went well for you, but it can be scary.

I got stopped for going 27 in a 20 zone (:-\) my third day RLE while wearing a skirt and with my old driver's license (male name, an M, and a picture of me with a full beard).  I didn't explain and the LEO didn't bat an eye.  He warned me that the ticket would be $100 and let me go.  There are some professionals out there. :)

I never really worried about being stopped, but I know Marcy worried a lot about the possibility.  We were both relieved a few years ago when I had the gender marker changed on my license.  Now, with the name change going through this week, I'll get a new license, and have the dreaded male first name changed.  It made a big difference that my middle birth name is Beverly.  I'm sure I would have had a more difficult transition with a totally male name.
