Shaving isn't cutting it...

Ok, after 2 hours and 4 razors, I now have a clean cut body...almost.

Does anyone want to share how they go about shaving their body? Or maybe a chemical that would get rid of it? My razors didn't cut close enough, so if you get close you can see just how much hair my chest had earlier. I also know that an electric shaver won't do the job either, it didn't when I was 12, probably wouldn't do it now.

As a side note, with a little makeup, padding, and a fall, I'm almost positive I could pass right now. Kinda cool feeling. Might not be overly pretty, but I could pass.

Hi Luana,

Body shaving does present a problem. At first as it grows back it itches terribly. Over time this sort of stops but of course you can still get rashes from razor burn so moisturizing is a must. I have a lady remington which has various attachments for different purposes. You might want to invest in one of these. It has an attachment that is basicly for trimming the bikini area that looks like a smaller version of a hair clipper. This will save you razors as you can use it to get rid of the bulk of your hair.

Because of the irritation at first you will probably want to go without shaving for a few days so your skin can heal. There is also the problem of ingrown hair. This will dissipate over time but can make your legs look like they have an acne problem.

I don't recall off the top off my head if you said you were CD or TS. If TS, if and when you start HRT the hair will become softer and easier to shave. If CD the best you can get is a tolerance for shaving over time but the same problem with razors.

I use a quad razor myself even though I have fine light hair which has become lighter since being on HRT. Actually getting a close shave becomes more difficult as the hair won't stand up adequatly for the razor to pull and cut. There are tricks to that but I won't bore you with that since this is not a problem for you at this point.

The hair grows in many directions so you have to shave in reverse and sideways on many parts of your body. For instance the hair on the front of the thigh grows down whereas the hair on the side grows at right angles.

Depilatories can be usefull although they never seem to work on me. Also you have to be careful and try a small area and wait 24 hrs to see if you have an allergic reaction. Epilators are painful. You may have read that thread already but if you haven't take a look.

When I first started I think It took me about as long as you, although I was able to do it with one razor. Now I hop in the shower and I'm done in about five minutes, but then I shave everyday. My face always takes the longest. I do that at the sink. The beard grows in every possible direction and is nearly impossible to get perfectly smooth, especially on the neck. Again I have light colored hair so no big problem for me. For you, you might have to use a little heavier concealer and foundation to cover it up.

I think thats about it. I did mention the moisturizer didn't I? Very important. Something with aloe in it. You can't use after shave for obvious reasons. A nice scented moisturizer with aloe will help keep down irritation and leave a nice femminine scent.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Thanks Cassandra!

I am trying to do this from a ts standpoint, trying to do as much as I can presently get away with. The official story i'm going with if anyone asks me is that i'm doing this to speed up my lap time in the pool, and have read that shaving ones's body will shave off a few seconds.

I'm sure all of you can guess the REAL reason i'm doing this. :D

Everyone at work knows that i'm working on my swimming for my PRT. The problem I'm having is that without my glasses, I can't really get a good look at what i'm shaving. I didn't do to bad for a first attempt, but my shin is going to be hurting for awile, got to close.

I looked over the fourms again, is it normal for a guy to get a body wax? Sounds painfull but it seems to work for a few weeks rather then days.

Hey there Luana

There are many men who are getting their body hair removed these days, it seems to be the in thing, and it has been comically portrayed in a couple of recent movies.

Apart from shaving your body, you may want to look at waxing.  That's how I remove mine, however after being on HRT my hair is very light and fine.  Waxing is more expensive, but the results are longer lasting and leave a smoother finish.  If you can't do it yourself you can always look up and esthetician who is willing to wax males, most will.  On the down side of this is the cost of course, here in Canada, it costs me $65.00 for eyebrows, full leg and bikini.  For my hair this will last me 5 to 6 weeks, and I find the feeling of smooth hairless skin wonderful.

Contrary to what the TV ads demonstrate, waxing at home is messy if you use warm wax with cloth strips, and I've found that ladies pre-waxed strips are not that effective on male hair.  I've noticed that stores are starting to carry more waxing products designed for male hair that you may want to try.  Just remember for first timers, waxing at home can be frustrating.  :)

I have found the epilator to be the best approach. I have coarse thick hair. No matter how hard I tried I never could seem to get it all shaving. By the next day I would have a 5 o'clock shadow over most of my body. I recently bought a Emjoi optima..$70. Its electric and has the widest head I could find. There's a lot of me to do. The first time doing it was a bit on the painful side, mostly because I had let it all grow back. (The pain pretty much goes away after the 3rd or 4th time.) The results are wonderful. Although it is suppose to last a couple of weeks, because of my rapid growing hair I have to touch it up every few days. If I really want a silk feel it only takes me another 5 mins to hit the rough spots with a razor. I occasionally get bumps on my skin where the hair was yanked out. I found moisturizing cream fixes that. (my wife doesn't get them, and she only needs to touch up once a week) Only thing I have to really watch for, is making sure I pull my skin taut so it doesn't get pinched between the rotors  :o
Here's a good site for with lots of info.. http://www.hairfacts.com/

Nothing beats the feel of silky legs,

I have used a Braun epilator for a long time, I am to the point that once every other week is fine for most areas, but some times I need it once a week.  Now if I could only use that on my face it would save lots of money at electralcists office.

hi smoothies, if you look at most of todays celebs, atheletes, television action participants(males), they have no chest-underarm hair.......i get a leg & full brazilian every 2 months(scrotum too)...not as painful as you may think...i have an excellant esthetician, she is fluid in her working on me..if shaving, i use lots of shaving gel w/aloe for delicate skin types. i use a ladies 'Bic-Soleil razor & Satin Care for sensitive skin..if you can do this in a tub of warm water, it goes a lot smother...moisturize well after you dry..Cetaphil is wonderful and dertamologist recommended...all this makes putting on sheer hose a head spinner for me..be careful of depilatories-i had an allergic reaction to  one with a formalhyde ingredient..same fopr toenail polishing...roger/renae

don't know what to say about body hair, I'm hairless below the neck other then a few hairs around my knees and I occassionally find a couple on my chest.  There used to be a little more on the chest, but it seems to have simply wilted away.  Correct about it being hard to shave body hair after some time on hormones, my razor simply glides over them for the most part, but going over them in most every direction, I eventually get them.  Underarms shave with little problem though and I only go after the few hairs on body every month or so.

I always do my shaving in the shower and never use any creams or jells, they seem to keep the razor off the skin where it can't get a bite.  I have been using the Mach 3 Turbo blades and have found nothing better, but they are expensive.  they work well with face hair thugh under pure water. I'm a fanatic about my face though and it can take me 30 min or so to shave my face and neck, even when there is nothing visable.  I can't stand to even feel any kind of stubble and hunt down each and every stray hair by feel till I am confident i'm absolutely smooth. I go after underarms every several days or so and as said, check over the middle of my chest and around nipples every month or so as by that time I can generally find a few strays here and there.  Legs I don't worry about until something gets visable.  My electro tech is doing her own legs and trades work with an electro tech friend of hers for underarms.  She's always going on about my legs and it not being fair.  She often shows me the progress on her legs and every so often I show her mine just to tick her off.  Never a hint of stubble, but I do have to keep up on the crotch area.  I have come to her at times with only 3 days growth on my face and with that short of time, I'm still smooth in some areas, limiting her work area.  She seems facinated with mens razors and says she has never found a female razor that is worth a damn to her.

anyway, the closest shave I have ever achieved is with the mach 3 and water with no creams, gels or soaps.  Using such things seems to make the razor glide obove the skin and I can never get as close as with just using running water, and I dont burn myself or get nicks, though at times I tend to get to close and irritate my skin a little, but the skin is always smooth and soft.

And right about the trend toward smooth bodies for men.  My tech tells me she has several guys who come in for chest and back hair, though most men she gets don't last more then a few sessions before giving up on it, but they are always coming in to remove hair on chest and badk.  She calls them sissys and gets frustrated because they expect to remove a ton of hair in a session or two which isn't possible.  There is no need to make up excuses for removing hair on body or face, if they really got to know, you just don't like or want hair on your body period.
