Today is the transgender day of remembrance, and so there are events taking place in many locations 'round the world.
In Reyjavík Iceland, they're right now, down at the city "pond", floating candles and reading the names of those who lost their life to hate and violence just this year.
In a couple of hours, I'll be making my way down to the town center, a circular "square" down in the heart of this town, where I'll be standing with the rest of the local GLBT group and I'll be giving a short "talk" thing, and then we'll take turn reading out all the names, dates, ages, locations, and cause of death, lighting some candles, and so on..
Both these events were set up on FB. The Reykjavík event had 16 attending and 7 maybe attending, and ours has 15 attending and 39 maybe attending, so I'm hoping to see maybe 20 people there.
20 people may not seem like a "lot" but this is a town of just 18.000 people, most of them only 'round for school.
Obviously, I'm having a whole host of nerves over this. I'm not a good speaker, and I'm constantly thinking I've lost it since I started putting myself forward like this.
Anyway... 'nuff 'bout what we're up to..
What are you up to?
