"Transwomen" Are Merely C-----ed Men

Although The Magazine Project is committed to providing an open space for all women in the LGBT community to express their thoughts, the majority of readers of this article felt it was not trans-friendly.  On 11/28/10, we removed the post for 24 hours. Then we received TONS of feedback and emails from both sides (for or against the author's view) demanding the article to be re-posted for discussion and rallied against censorship. Hence, we are reposting the article with the following disclaimer:

Some castrated men simply lie, and claim to be "biological women" or "women-born-women." I believe most would try this if they weren't so obviously male, so the majority insist that they are "transwomen" or "Male-to-Female Transsexuals" and that they have just as much right to be in women-only and Lesbian space as real women and Lesbians.  They even say that we oppress them!  If we dare to fight to defend our rare, precious women-only space, we're accused needing education, and of being "ignorant" and "transphobic."

On the basis of this article, that fear is most certainly irrational.

The claim to women only spaces is sexist. As sexist as men only spaces.

The claims of violence are isolated. Some men are violent toward women, some women are violent toward men. But principally women are psychologically violent toward men, especially boys.

The problem with these sort of attitudes is they are so wound up in self serving defenses that any discussion, by men or women is instantly dismissed. Men disagree because they are oppressors. Women disagree because they are oppressed and not liberated.

a very high percentage of lesbians would therefore be happier with a man.
a very high percentage of lesbians who get a male friend choose a gay guy.
oh dear.

Same old easy bigoted ignorance I've heard a million times. Honestly, I don't see any constructive reason to even link to a such a story, since all it's going to do is set off dysphoria for peeps over somebody with an axe to grind putting forth an idea that isn't new or intelligent, it's just dumb.

I mean really, how cheap & obvious can you be?  "Lesbians are just men with vaginas."  See, I can do it too..

Well - as most of the people here, and elsewhere will attest - there is nothing 'just' about having a penis or a vagina.

It is so obvious that the author is a man hater.  The word "Castrated" appears over and over again.  She must have some serious issues to hate men so much.

Whatever issues she has regarding men, it goes way beyond simply hating men. I'm a man-hater myself (though I try to keep the expression of it in check) due to experiences I've been through, but I'm also a transwoman and if my "man-hating" side shows itself at all when it comes to other transfolk, it only applies to transmen, because they're the ones who are men, not us transwomen.

So yeah, I have to say I hate women like that author. They give us man-haters a bad name. I mean, just cause we hate men doesn't mean we can't be -reasonable- about it.

Wow this article is so discouraging. There's so much hate there it's really hurtful. I hope there aren't a lot of lesbians that feel this way about trans people.

I think you all make a mistake in caring about this. Personally I couldn't give a flying banana what they think - it's what I think that matters to me, and what I think is that they are all obviously far crazier and more deluded than I am.

Which Labels are applied to something are only important to those stupid enough to think that they actually make any difference to the underlying existential reality. So if someone wants to think I am a catsrated male then please be my guest! I honestly could not care less.

Besides by some medical definitions they are possibly right... It doesn't change the fact that I am happier now than I was before, and it certainly doesn't change the way I see myself - which needless to say is somewhat different.

In short have enough confidence in yourselves not to care what others may choose to think.
