Hyogo junior high school to accept gender identity disorder child as female student

HIMEJI -- A junior high school in Hyogo Prefecture will accept an 11-year-old elementary school boy with gender identity disorder (GID) as a female student from next spring, a regional board of education has announced.

The child has been attending a local elementary school as a girl since the first year, and no students at the school are believed to know about the child's disorder.

As the student is going through the development of secondary sexual characteristics such as facial hair and a deeper voice, the local board of education has set up a support team to provide necessary assistance to the child.

At first I didn't see that the title had been cut off, and thought it said "female stud".  I guessed I was going to be reading about a tween pimpette.  Being a student seems distinctly better for the young lady concerned, but not as funny.

I can only imagine how horrible that kid must be feeling...completely stealth all her life and now making the news

While I remember my first puberty acutely and how much it hurt I at least was cushioned somewhat by a veil of ignorance and confusion.

To be so keenly aware of your identity at that young age and then have it stamped on and be aware of it. And now to have a news story like this come out about you.

But they also have so long before anyone will even help them... If that happened to me, It would be beyond my endurance. I know I would be dead If I'd experienced that.

What's worse is that as the students now try to figure it out, they're just as likely to decide its the wrong girl.

Bet me the trouble is going to come from the parents first.

The sad truth is that any sort of "witch hunt" is going to draw attention to far more birth assigned females (thought to be non-gender conforming) then it will this child.
