Hi everyone,

Do you think it is safe to use Horny Goat Weed with HRT?
I am considering using it because it may work good for bone density and libido.
But because it seems to influence hormones too, I wonder if it is safe.

I don't know. What I do know is that they are illegal for sale in the UK because of false marketing, so I wouldn't take any chances - either they do nothing, and you've wasted your money, or they do something else than what they claim, which would probably be bad.

Hi E... the supplements are for sale here in the Netherlands... but I am considering using it as tea...
the chinese name is Ying Yang Huo...(Herba epimedii).

You can buy it at stores that sell herbes for traditional chinese medicine.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist for drug interaction.

As a generalistion (sorry) the use of herbs that have unclear pharmaceutical effects are considered best not to be taken when on defined medication. Sorry that's a crap sentence . What it means is if it is unknown or unclear how the herb will interact with your medications don't take it. Several reasons. If you have an adverse reaction to ANYTHING, you will not be able to claim compensation. Many herbs, and many drugs,  have profound interactions with other medications, and the knowledge is difficult to find even for professionals.  Hospitals have a galore of people who have disease symptoms that end up being due to drug interactions, and it can take years to find them. No you cannot just look them up on the computer, some we can but others, particularly when you are on several drugs, a few herbs, diet and life style differences; not a chance.

When on HRT as MtF you should be getting bone densitometry test every now and again (yearly). If you aren't why not? Your physician should be asking for them. Do the sensible stuff, eat a proper diet, drink milk, take a calcium supplement for women and exercise.

Live Healthy tend to look after most things.
