Dosages through PM?

Are we allowed to talk about dosages through PM? I can't find a site that says the average dose and since my doctor has never dealt with trans patients before I'm hoping to know what the average dose is before I see him so he doesn't give me too much or too little.

Given that the fear is that someone will end up suing susans.org because they self medicated with information obtained from here (the whole thing about it being to protect you is a thin cover to make it sound like it's not for the entirely selfish paranoid reasons it is)

I would say you are probably not supposed to use susans.org in any way that solicits advise regarding self medication.

NO!  It's because it amounts to 'practicing medicine without a licence' which is a crime.

My bad. I get why the rule is in place I just didn't know if it applied to PM's as well. I was just looking for maybe even a link that states the average on another site. Wasn't sure if that was against the rules. Just really don't want this doctor giving me an insanely small or way to high dose.

ROFLMAO.

Don't be absurd.

You have to actually be doing it as a recurring occupation type thing for it to be practicing medicine without a license.

There is absolutely NO illegality to providing self medicating advise in the US for harm reduction purposes. Absolutely none.

However, you can be sued for pretty much anything, and susans.org wants to reduce the risk as much as possible never mind the fact it could help many people.

By your logic you could say if you have a headache and I recommend you go take an asprin, I'm "practicing medicine". It's ridiculous.

Technically all I'm aware of the rules saying is...

Quote. Discussing dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.

Strongly discouraged.

But in practice it seems to be interpreted as no discussion of anything approaching dosages anywhere.

Do it through Email (or snail mail if you don't want a permanent record of it), that way only you and the other party are responsible.

It's not illegal to discuss self medication, it's not even illegal to discuss drug use in the united states.

I'd recommend email or msn or aim or something.

I fear this thread is straying from it's point :( I'm just looking for an answer from a mod. As far as legalities I'm not asking someone to tell me exactly what I should be on just an average of what doctors put trans guys on. So, mods any answer? If not it's fine, no problem, I'll just have to wait and see if I can get in contact with some of my rl friends

tekla

Aspirin is not a prescribed drug, the ones were talking about are.  And that's where there is a very bright line drawn by the law - which is a law written by and for doctors, who through the AMA own a lot more congressmen then you do.

Alright, maybe I should have just emailed a moderator but I actually don't know how to do that. Can someone lock this thread for me, I was really just looking for yes or no and I fear this is going to get into a debate which is not what I was after? I respect the site rules. I just wasn't very clear about that one. Can a mod let me know the rule for sure please? Sorry for any trouble it caused. Thanks :)

The site rules states.
Quote from: Rule 8.The discussion of hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and it's medications are permitted, with the following limitations:

A. Advocating for or against a specific medication or combinations of medications for personal gain is strictly prohibited.
B. Discussing the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription, and self medication without a doctors care is prohibited.
C. Discussing dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.

We can not in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.

You are all adults.  I will say this.  Don't involve Susans.Org in any off forum discussions.  We can not allow our forum to be involved with DIY HRT for the reasons above.

I think janet stated our site's rules pretty clearly. On the note of your other worry with your dose I just have this to add:

I don't think anyone here is qualified to answer this question even in private. We're not doctors and only have personal experiences which is no way to determine an average. Your doctor should closely monitor your levels to help you find the right balance. The dose is not an exact science and is often adjusted over time as your levels change. Which is why you can't go on averages or other people's experiences. One person's perfect dose can be too low or too high for another, which is one of the reasons why dosages aren't discussed here at Susan's.

In short, no one really knows what dose would be considered too low or too high for you. You have to work with your doctor on this one.

And as per your request I'm locking this topic for you.
