My Electrolosis Experience

I started my transition in July. I decided Electrolosis would be my first step. I was a toe head blonde when I was young, but now my hair is more brown then blonde. I have always been clean shaven as a male and any attempts at growing a moustache never lasted as it would never come it thick enough. My facial hair varyies from dark brown, red, to very light blonde.

Approx ten years ago I tried laser removal, but it didn't work well with my facial hair. So I knew I would have to do electrolosis to get the job done. I did my online research and found that there were a few places in my area. On one of the online Transgender sites, there was a small reference listing Northwest Electrolosis in Eugene, OR. I called Northwest Electrolosis and spoke with Kim. My voice is not feminine and I am not out in public yet. I nervously spoke with Kim and basically just told her I was transgender and was interested in having my facial hair removed. She graciously took time on her day off to talk me through some of the basics and we set up an appointment for a week and a half later for me to come in for a free 30 minute consultation and and hour of treatment.

She also advised me that in her experience of treating MTF trans, she gets the best results if you let your facial hair grow out for the clearing process. She told me that she has had clients trust her and follow this and have results in a period of several months, versus those who have not followed her advice and have taken years to get the job done and as a result spent much more than they needed. I am of limited financial means and I trusted her experience, so I let my facial hair frow out.

I am glad I trusted her, even though it was very difficult, uncomfortable and psychologically totally against what I want to achieve. So, for the first time in my life I grew out all of my facial hair! It was wierd to say the least, and having always been clean shaven, it was obvious to those around me that something was going on.  I am a field technician and only see my supervisor once a month at mandatory meetings, but of course during this time he happened to come out in the field and do a ride a long with me for my quarterly review. I had not advised my employer at this time, so he thought I was lacking on my appearance and marked that against me. He never asked why I wasn't clean shaven and many of my co workers have facial hair and don't get any comments about it, so I though this was interesting.

The day for my first appointment arrived and my GG girlfreind went with me for support. My electrologist was very experienced with MTF trans and had been a licensed and practicing for eleven years. She uses the latest technology and has a Apilus Platinum epilator.

Kim gave me a lesson in hair growth and havs several posters of hair in different stages of growth and showed me what the process entails. She advised that we would start with clearing one area at a time and work on keeping me presentable and even as we progressed.

Consultation time was over and now to find out what this was all about! To say I was nervous would be an understatement! Kim gloved up, put on her magnification glasses and began on my neck. She started zapping my hair and the feeling was very unique. It felt like a smal, hot electric prick. She asked me if it hurt and tried diferent settings to find my pain threshold. The stronger she could set the level of treatment, the more likely the hair would be killed the first time and not grow back. It turned out I have a very high level of tolerance.

Thus began the beginning of the end of my facial hair and a new me!

Since you only started in July, the result does look very very good. I've heard lots of stories about electrolysis, but they all seemed to take a lot more time. Letting your hair grow out does seem to make the difference.

Congrats on those great results!

Were all your appointments 1 hour? Was an hour okay or too long? I was told that they usually do treatments of half an hour, but that an hour is possible too. I didn't ask yet if I can make 4 hour appointments LOL. I wanna get it over with as fast as possible.. I haven't felt the pain yet though so I'm not sure how long I can take it.

Your results are great. Wow! I have been going for 2 years now and we are STILL not clearing my face in every (5 hour) session.

This is a great wake up call for me to find a new electrologist who can move faster and more efficiently.
