I haven't been on here for a while but I just started coming back...anyways, my mom said when I turn sixteen she would take me to get checked so I can go on a pill for that time of month so it doesn't last so long. I'm old enough to now so I asked her when she would take me. I asked what they do and she told me they get some cells or whatever to make sure you don't got cancer or anything. She told me that a while ago and I thought I could handle that, I would just talk to them about how I'm VERY uncomfortable about that part of me and stuff. BUt then she told me that they feel around up inside to make sure everything is good like the uterus and stuff. THat made me wanna throw up. Not just the part with them feeling all that, but just the thought that I don't feel comfortable bout thinking how I have all that stuff. ANd if I was just born a boy then I wouldn't need to deal with it. THEn I got all blah blah feeling (you know dysphoric and depressed and stuff, even more then I've been) so anyways...do you guys know if there's anything that I could take and don't need to go through all that?

well, when I got birth control I ddnt have todo n examination, the dr just asked me what kind I wanted, and gave it to me.

maybe try a different dr, i dont think you need examinations for birth cntrol

I've talked to a couple of doctors about it, one wanted me to get an exam done and wouldn't prescribe the BC without an exam.  The next doctor I saw wanted me to have an exam but went ahead and agreed to prescribe BC without one.  I ended up backing out though because I just didn't want the extra female hormones in my body.

Ok. THanks. I guess ill just talk to em bout it. see what they say.

It varies by state.  In California, doctors are required by law to perform a full pelvic exam as a prerequisite to prescribing birth control.  Every time you get a new prescription, you need a full exam.  Fortunately, the prescription is for a year's supply.

The only way to avoid needing to have a pap smear (the 'getting some cells or whatever') is to have a hysterectomy.  Pelvic exams are a pretty critical part of a routine health screening for anyone with a uterus.  For an unfortunate example of what can result in avoiding these exams, watch the documentary Southern Comfort.

Charles your age says 16. I seem to recall another transguy who mentioned his age and getting a papsmear and everyone said if he hadn't been sexually active and didn't have any problems he didn't need one until he is older.

Just throwing that out there as something to look into if you haven't been sexually active. A doctor should be able to tell you whether one is needed at your age or not.

Many doctors will not prescribe birth control/menstruation suppressants without one.

I was prescribed birth control at 15, (i wasn't sexually active) and i didn't need a exam,  but i don't know what the laws are here in michigan.

Anyone know of anything other than birth control or anorexia that does it?  (Because neither of those things are going to happen)

Testosterone.  Hysterectomy.  Pregnancy.  Lots of regular physical exercise.

I talked to my doc when she tried to get me to do a pap and she asked me are you sexually active and I told her yeah, I have a girlfriend. She asked me if I did anything with men or any type of insertion and I told her no (why would I want to put anything in a hole thats not supposed to be there?) and anyways she said I didn't need one. I basically told her that when I do have sex its with a strap on and she says I am "medically a virgin" or whatever bs- but hey at least I can avoid the evil pap smears that way till I get my hysto.

You need one before you get a hysto.  They're usually done in the pre-op appointment.

You do realize that T will stop periods and is at least $24,000 cheaper and not major surgery, right?

Yes. T is not an option at this time and I doubt it will be. By my research I can get a hysto for 5k.

5?  In the US?  Mine, performed in a public hospital, was 51k, including pre- and post- op visits.  Finding the same for 10% of the cost seems very unlikely.

Mister, you got ripped. Mine was almost 11k but no where near 50k. I had ovaries tubes and whole uterus including cervix removed.

That's cheap for the SF Bay Area.  UCSF was $100-125k.

I would like to stop mine too. Don't want to take any female hormones.  T will stop them and hopefully will start soon.  I have known girls who were not sexually active get the pill to help control their periods without getting an pelvic exam.  Mine are way to messy every month for me, will just keep using lots of tampons until I can get on T.
