I got my first short haircut at the end of October. The lady was cool about giving me exactly what I asked for, but she really laid it on thick by calling me "girl" at the end of every sentence. She was just being friendly, but I wasn't real enthusiastic about going back for round two of the same thing. So today I decided to get my hair cut at the place my brother goes to instead. We went together, because he needed a cut too.

So we go in, and my brother gives his card to the lady.

Lady: One or two?
Brother: Uh, two.
Lady: Is he on your card too?
Brother: ...Can you make it that way?
Lady: If you want to. What's his name?

I'm always kind of surprised when I pass, so I gave her my male name feeling like at any moment she would do a double-take. But, it didn't happen.

The lady who cut my hair was maybe sixty years old and I was thinking, "There's no way I can spend all this time talking to her and not have her catch on." But she was really nice and we talked a lot and at one point asked if my brother and I were twins. At the end, she asked if I wanted gel in my hair, and when I said I didn't typically use it, she said, "Are you sure? A lot of boys like this" and then started to comb it into a Bieber style. I just laughed and said, "No thanks" and she laughed too and combed it normally, and hey, even being mistaken for a guy who'd like a Bieber cut is better than being seen as a girl ;D

It came out looking great, so now I feel like a million bucks. Just the fact that I passed to everyone, even as I was talking and stuff (and having a brother who calls me by my chosen name/pronouns too), was the greatest experience ever. I guess I am kind of lucky so I am grateful for that. Just wanted to share :)

And now I have my first ever receipt in my name! Except the last name is spelled wrong...>_> Not a big deal though.

That's awesome.  :D I still have the receipt from my first male haircut too, hehe. It doesn't have my name on it, but it still means a lot. It was a little more awkward than your experience, because I do not pass well with my hair out of my face and I was freaking out about that, and the woman cutting my hair was really taken aback when she found out how old I was. But hey. Still great, and having a real male cut helps passing a lot.

Nice. It's pretty awesome like small things like that can just give you a boost.

i don't even remember the first time i passed while getting my haircut, but every time i go it's a great experience. i do remember however the first time that i asked to get the back and sides of my head shaved and the hairdresser expected me to know what all the numbers meant, haha!

sounds like you had a great time, man! hopefully every haircut goes that way from now on (:

That's great!

I go a unisex salon and the barber knows why to give me a decent guy's cut  ;D

Congrats!

getting a haircut has always been annoying. hairdressers just like to make sure they don't give "male haircuts" to females, even when you specifically ask them to.  :-\  i recently found a really good salon, but looks like i'll probably need to find a new place after my voice changes etc.. another chapter of my life is beginning i suppose 8)

That sad truth is exactly why I went to a barber. Tell a salon hairdresser you to shave it down to a 1 guard all around and they freak out, try to talk you out of it, and sometimes don't even do it right. Told the barber that and no questions asked was done in 5 mins

I can so relate --- I have been seeing this stylist who cuts my wife's hair & knows she is a lesbian.  I showed her a pic out of a hairstyle magazine that was a guys cut and said I wanted that --- she said okay but I won't cut it that short cause it would look bad on you.  I tried fighting it but she still wouldn't go shorter.  She gave me the cut with a feminie touch.

So, now I go to a man's saloon .. and get my hair cut ... it's run by an asian couple and the wife cuts my hair.  I am treated just like all the guys and I have gone enough she knows the guard to use on me.  I even get the neck and should massage.
