An open letter to everyone who uses the anti-transsexual woman slur "tra**y", to the jerk who called my friend a tra**y when she went on the bus to go to work and ruined her day, to the non-trans straight girl who called a girl she didn't like a "tra**y" to imply she was ugly, to the hate crime assailant who called his trans victim a tra**y as he bashed her near to death, to

[...]

OK, you're right, I give up, I'm just a "tra**y": subhuman, joke, object. I should just accept that you find my medical condition so uncomprehendable that you fear it. Sorry that I had the audacity to think the trans community could integrate their humanity into mainstream society and bring awareness to the stigma and harm that the T word inspires.

Well let's just say an derogatory word to describe another person is fair game.  We now can call anyone we think maybe gay, a "Flaming Fa**t", or Hispanics we can now call "Wetb**k", or African- Americans are now "Nig***" again.

What you don't like that?  Then don't use "Tra**y".

And apologizes to anyone that was really offended, but think about it.  Tra**y is just as bad.

Heh, if she's offended by it's cultural proliferation in the US, what Stonewall is doing in the UK will make her head explode

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm pretty tired of people trying to 'reclaim' these insulting words thinking they can make them better. I think some words are better left to die because they've had more than enough time to hurt people.

I had a big problem with some people in a group I play an online game with who use the word 'gay' to insult other people/things. The person who was sort of the leader of the group had made it clear when I decided to join the group that things like racist, sexist, religious or political slurs and others of the like weren't allowed in the group because of how rude and wrong those sort of things were but it kind of boggled me how insulting with 'gay' wasn't included in the mix. I've yet to see anyone insult with '->-bleeped-<-' but the moment I see it I'm going to make absolutely sure everyone knows of my incredible distaste for it and I may just have to leave the group if nothing is done over that type of behavior.

I don't care when people say that they are trying to reclaim the word or that it 'has a different meaning now'. Using 'gay' and '->-bleeped-<-' to refer to something distasteful, bad or annoying is NEVER ok and it has ALWAYS been bad and I will not accept that 'it's different now' as a proper excuse, ever. When someone uses those words in that way you are hurting people with your poor choice of words and overall lack of consideration for how hurtful these words are to us.

It's a winning strategy, just ask the rednecks and the freaks.
