Is my electrologist ripping me off?

Lately I have been thinking that it is really just taking so long to clear some areas, and not so long with others. I feel like my upper lip is just not going away.

We have been working on my face for 2 years now. The first 6 months I did about 2 hours a week. The next I did 4. The entire second year I have been doing 5 hours a week and have been there almost every week.

I feel like it would be so easy for her to just drag the process by working slower, or turning down a setting or something. Especially because she is always worried about money problems and telling stories about she has always had money problems.

Could anyone share their progress and timeline so that I can have something to compare to? I would really appreciate it.

Hi Glitter,

There are several recent threads on laser and electro so you may wish to read them as well.

I have had two full rounds of laser and have lost at least 70-80% of dark hair. This was 3 hours (in one hour breaks) for the first session = $300. The second session took about 30 mins for the entire face, about six weeks after the first = $100. Going for the third in January, six weeks after the second.  I'm showing little dark hair, went out recently and could use a dab of concealer on a few areas. Before I would have used pan make up, and concealer then powder.

I do know hair removal depends upon your skin and hair type. Laser is cheaper than electro, and quicker. But some people say not as effective. For me it has been great so far.

It may be very worthwhile going to another operator and asking for a comment and quote. Remember TGs can be captive audiences/customers, and we do get ripped off. BTW I had a (TG) friend who had a makeover for a party which cost a fortune. I didn't think it was that good. I mentioned it to a GG friend who told me that the cost was greater than for her wedding makeup plus her bridesmaids.

Mmm.

Thanks Cindy,
Congrats on your progress. I wish that laser worked on blondes  .

I have been doing a lot of looking around online. It seems like most people are able to start clearing the face a lot sooner than where I am at with a lot less hours.

I didn't have a lot of hair.

It took two years of diminishing time to clear it all.

However you say you started with 2 hours a week. I started with between 6 and 9 hours a week during the initial clearance, although that rapidly diminished to more reasonable amounts. So to me it does not seem that you have had a huge amount, merely that in elapsed time it seems to be being done rather slowly.

The issue may be that if your pain tolerance is low or your skin is prone to scarring you may not be able to cope with the highest power settings, and if not then it will take longer.

I was lucky to have a super high pain threshold and my skin does not form scar tissue so I could take the maximum output.

In short the only yardstick for you, is you. Cindy is right though, it may be worth consulting another operator and see if you get better results.

I'll join the 'try another electrologist' gang as I have some very nice hairless patches and the end is in sight with much less treatments.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yeah I'm pretty bummed out. 2 years and now I am wondering how much of it has been wasted time.

The thing that really hit me was that this week I went to see her for a 5 hour session with really not that much hair. I mean it was a lot, but it's all pretty sparse. She got nowhere near finished. It's like she was just moving slower. Spending more time on each hair, or "trying" to pull one out and then trying again. It just seems strange. It is time to try someone new.

It's just really inconsistant performance on her part.

One other thing that I just don't get is that we have been clearing my upper lip for about a year now every week. I STILL can see a shadow. I seems so strange because on my cheeks and neck once it was cleared the first time the shadow pretty much went away. With the upper lip it just won't go away.

I have a feeling this lady is messing with me.

Her name is Suzanne Rogers and she works out of her home in Orange, CA. Anyone ever heard of her?
