Is it possible for somones gender identity to slowly shift over the years? I think that has happened to me.....I use to think I was a girl [that was all I knew] and I was okay with that...but lately....its been shifting for me and I'm starting to feel more and more like a gay man....I cant imagine myself having sex as a woman anymore. This is weird but I'm only attracted to guys as a man..and not as a women..it didn't use to be that way. I cut my hair short and wear a binder and guys clothes now. So...is it possible for someone who is gender fluid to have a very slow progression of shifting identity? I find what is happening to me very fascinating...and quite frankly..I love it!

Part of it could just be exploratory...with each step you take, no matter how small that step may be, you may just be discovering your true self more and more.  I would imagine that to be what you are going through.  It's both liberating and exhilarating to find yourself.  I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Most people who refer to themselves as "gender fluid" go back and forth, in a much more fluid manner...like one of those things that sit on peoples desk...a seesaw with blue water in it. 

Alex, never looked at sex as either a male or female role until the last few years, nowadays despite having a male undercarriage i never see myself as having sex as anything less than being female, as far as i am concered my wife and i are lesbians in the bedroom departmen,t just put it down to being with someone i am comfortable with to be able to let out my feminine desires and not feel guilty about it

Yup.  My gender shifts around, always has, though in a much more short term way.  Some days I feel I am a girl, others a guy, but most days I'm in between.  I don't see any reason why that couldn't happen over a much longer period of time, like you're describing.

I think the psychology of any human is often complex. I don't essentially believe in gender being a binary thing either. As far was what makes people cisgendered or not I think this typically happens in the developmental stages when as a fetus our brains go through several hormone washes. I do think some things as far as experience can contribute to our perceptions and predispositions about what roles we assign to gender or how we express it, however, I think most people who are TG, TS or Androgyne/Genderqueer are generally born this way. I won't rule out environmental and emotional factors influencing these things and causing fluctuation, but I still think we are, at the end of the day, who we are, whatever that is. I know strange things can happen to the brain at any stage in life, and not to underplay them, but in general I think we more discover ourselves than change. I do think it's common for an Androgyne to go through states of flux with regard to gender feeling or expression, but I attribute that more to the nature of genderqueerness and not something I would expect from a cisgendered, TS or TG person. However, just because the majority is one way doesn't mean there is an impossibility for an exception. How's that for a completely wishy-washy answer?
