Yeah, works for me.  I have a copy hanging in my office, there is a copy in the Hell Room at the Fillmore, and he walks that walk, I've never seen him cop an attitude, pull one of those 'I'm a rock star' deals or be late.  But outside of Scott Wayland and Axl, I've never seen any big star do it, it's always some pudknocker band that tries to pull that crap. Or DJs, they almost always just suck, attitude for days, an entourage of losers and poseurs, late, and constant complaints and what?  Because they are playing a record?  Yeah. 

Actors and dancers though, that's a whole different deal.  Hard to say which of those two is worse.  Well dancers are easier on the eyes at least.

Hmmm Rollins is very easy on the eye, I think that I'd let him off 'some' Rock star bull!

Heh, I developed a 'How much like Spinal Tap was that' scale for my own amusement rating various performers antics. It was actually a lot of fun.

Having heard a lot of his shows, I'm fairly sure that those words are written for himself.

But at least he's not advertising insurance or butter!!

I'll date myself but I really thought the pre-Rollins Black Flag was a much better band that it was with him.  Those old shows where they would play the Berkeley Square with X  or at the Sound of Music with the Dead Kennedys were pretty off-the-wall. 

And hey, if he wrote it to himself, to remind himself not to be a dick with the people he had to work with, well, that's pretty smart then.  I know several people who ought to keep some bit of advice about not being a dick at work posted at their desk.

I only saw him do the stand up act once though, and that was like hell, 15-20 years ago now, whenever he first started doing it.  No need for a high-tech tech for what amounts to a speech.  But he was OK, at least he is articulate, which for a rock star is almost breaking the mold.

I think the Rollins Black Flag recorded better, but then again I think stereos are for shut-ins.  I'm really not all that much for canned rock music, particularly punk rock.  The worst punk band is better live than the best punk record ever recorded.

Hmmm, I dunno, I've seen some pretty cruddy punk rock bands live!

I've seen EVERY cruddy punk band live I think, still there is an energy in a live show that never transfers to your speakers at home.

Which "The Enemy" you realize there were at least 3 bands with that name?

I really miss DOA - Randy Rampage, Joey ->-bleeped-<-head, Chuck Biscuits were the bomb!  But I miss Minor Threat too.  In both cases, those bands put on live shows that were unmatched for energy.

Ha, yes, the haphazard drumming and shouty lyrics kind of lose their appeal once the words "production values" get involved in things.

Check out "The Enemy" who did 50,000 Dead, not too bad.  The newer band by that name is OK, but punk is so far past it's 'sell by' date (is is all of rock really) it's not funny.

Only the newest version, it's hard for bands to play here, getting the work permits, shipping instruments (considered commerce, and taxed as such), renting the rest of the equipment from SIR, and the fact that getting the band and equipment here and then touring is pretty much going to cost more than they can make.  I mean you get to the West Coast and you can tour the 1000 miles of the Coast, and get San Diego, LA, SF, Portland and Seattle, that's five gigs and a thousand miles, then its about 2,000 miles to the next gig.  And, unless they contract to have a lot of stuff manufactured here, they are not getting their merch (a critical source of money) in either.  We miss a lot of really good East Coast bands out here because once they get to Chicago it's not worth the money it takes to get the 2K to get to the West Coast, and that works in reverse too.  Very few people outside of the West Coast (and LA/SF at that) ever got to see the original Black Flag or X.  And the NZ band, they were around for what, a year, two?  But didn't one of them go into Split Enz, or no, that was the other way round right?

There is of course The Enemy from Coventry, a band so derivative that even drunk Geordies thought the band were ripping off The Jam.

There is a great punk album 'Pissed and Proud' by Peter and the Test Tube Babies - recorded fairly live and full of antagonism between the audience and the band.

My biggest problem was being born in the wrong time and or country. By the time I was gig going age the big (ha!) English punk bans were absolute tosh like The Exploited, English Dogs, Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror!!!! Urgh! Gimmie a Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, Flipper or Black Flag record any day of the week. Just don't make me listen to that racket!!
