Big Freedia to ring in New Year here with New Orleans bounce

If there is more bounce to the ounce, then the Empty Bottle is the place to be on New Year's Eve.

Big Freedia (pronounced FREE-da) is the most popular purveyor of "bounce," the smoking New Orleans hip-hop that's all from-the-hip.

Bounce has the fast beat of Chicago House, but Freedia says there's much more butt-shaking going on in his beats. Freedia is 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds. Freedia, genetically a man, is referred to as a "she."

The bounce movement began as "Sissy Bounce," a New Orleans term for acts with varied and ambiguous sexual identities. Many of its performers now eschew that full title.
