In my last desperate attempt to hold on to a fleeting moment of the holidays... (there's still 90 minutes or so left of New Year's day), I was thinking about my Christmas days with my family and the special gifts my Mom and Dad gave me.

I've held on to some of them.  I sorted through them in my mind and decided on which has meant the most to me.  It's odd how something so inconspicuous can have so much meaning.  The one that is most meaningful is a cheap music stand I received when I was 11 years old.  I've used it ever since then and still care for it.  It is in as good a shape now as it was back then.  I only use it ocassionally now since I purchased a couple really nice ones last year.

I've had many hobbies and interests over the years.  Some fade in and out.  I go back to some and leave others behind.  Playing music has been a constant however.  I've always had some instrument in my hands and my music stand has been there.  It is a reminder that I do love my family.  It is a reminder that long ago, my mother purchased a thoughtful gift for me that I still treasure.

So, has anyone else held on to a treasured gift from their youth?  What is it?  What made it special?

That is a wonderful story. I am so happy he has come back into your life and I am sure she is very greatful you are allowing her to be herself.  I understand completely.

I have a green dragon my mums friend bought me at a raffle once. He only cost 50p (like $1 or something) And 16yrs later he still sits on the side of my bed. I called him Duncan. My cousin once pulled out his eyes and i was so upset, but my mum bought him some new eyes ^_^
