I believe I may be doing something wrong

So my second shot was a few days ago, I'm taking half a vial twice a month. I tried using the second half of the vial, but I wasn't able to get a full dose out of it, I was slightly under. I'm gonna give a pretend number, but I got 4/5ths of what I was supposed to get. I went ahead and injected anyways because it wasn't that much of a difference, but it made me wonder.

Am I supposed to use a new vial every time? The vial contains two doses technically, so I didn't think so, but when I wasn't able to get it to the correct line, it scared me. The person who gave me the injection lesson gave me the half filled vial back, so I just assumed that I was supposed to use what was left for my next shot. I was never told what to do, really.

I have a multiple dose vial, I think it's good for 4 or 5 doses. My doctor told me that it's hard to get the last few drops of T out of the vial, and the best thing to do is to pull the needle out of the vial as you pull back on the syringe. That way the needle tip doesn't stick above the level of the remaining T. It's kind of hard to explain without a visual... Anyway, I'd say you're fine using each vial twice, but it would be best to check with your doctor.

I did what you explained, but I still came up short. I'll try harder next time -salute-

I just got my second shot a few hours ago and the nurse drew from the first vial out of the two I have that wasn't exactly half empty. Just a little under half. She didn't say anything about it so I assume it's alright. o.o I'll have to ask when I get my next shot cause now it's got me curious.

If one vial contains 2 shots then you are getting that full amount over the course of 2 injections.

Agreed....you are still getting the full amount so you will be okay....

No I didn't get the full amount, I got 1ml short of my dose the second time, that's what has me worried.

Did you store your vial in the refrigerator or have it get colder than room temperature for any stretch of time (e.g., leaving it in a bag outside for hours in the cold)?

The oil constricts in cold, making each dose slightly more concentrated, but also reducing the volume ever so slightly.

The oil also expands again when warmed so I don't see that happening.

How much does the T cost per bottle? Just curious how other guys do it. I get a 10mL bottle for about $60. Do you have to have a nurse administer the shot?

Also agree.

The perscription is one vial, in divided doses, per month. Suggest you stick to the perscription to be honest.

I know what you're talking about. I think some people who've replied don't exactly understand what you're saying. When I first started T I was prescribed one vile that had two doses in it. The same thing happened to me. My first shot had the exact dose and then two weeks later I used up the rest of the vile and my second shot was a smaller dose. I think it's inevitable in those viles which sucks. I think some people who've replied think you are messing with your dosage and that's why you didn't get the right amount but you've only done as directed. I never experienced it again because I started getting my prescription from Stroheckers and they send viles that last for months. Try it out again and if it happens the second time around then try to order a bigger vile.

UGH finally someone gets it! Thank you! I have to get it in this form because it's all my insurance covers. Otherwise I'd get a big vial that lasts my full prescription. It's rather frustrating, really.

Really guys, though, why would I mess with my dose?! I didn't even do my first dose, a nurse did! I am very insulted, especially by Spacial. :(

Logan, my insurance covers it, so it's 8$ for a vial, so 1 prescription from my doc ends up totaling to 32$. The guy behind the counter said it would be something like 175$ for a 10ml vial which was my prescription, so he split it up into several vials and refills so that my insurance would cover it. 0_o Which didn't seem right to me, I'd never ever heard of it being that expensive for 10ml. Who knows. I had a nurse give me the injection lesson, now I have my mother inject me in my hip every other week because it hurts less :)

Sean, I never refrigerated it. I kept it in a cabinet. :/ it was left in my car overnight once, but if it expands again when warmed like LordKAT said, then I don't think that was it, because it was in the house for two weeks after that night.

I think I know what did it though. The reservoir in the needle, like Kvall said. That's about 1ml in there, which is what I was missing. I'll talk to my cousin who is a nurse about it, see what she says, then relay it here.

Morgan, the amount you were short is a lot.  What size is the vial?
  •

Sarah Louise

Please be careful not to give out information that would indicate what your doseage is.  Talking about the size of a bottle is and what the cost is is fine.  But saying how long that bottle would last, tells what dose your taking and that would be against the rules here.

MDVs are mass produced, they're not going to be as accurate as being filled by hand (which is itself would be inaccurate from time to time), so its entirely possible for it to be slightly less or more then the volume printed on the vial.  SOP for an IM injection would be to draw up the fluid, actually a little more then you plan on injecting so that when you push the air out of the tip the rubber stopper lines up with the intended dose in mls.  there should be a very small amount in the needle itself (I believe like 0.1 ml or less).

Unless its highly concentrated, a small difference in the fluid amounts from one injection to the next shouldn't have an effect over the long term.

Do you use Walgreen's? If so I have news for you about what is happening with your vials.

No, but I was thinking about it. Is something wrong with Walgreen's?
