BLOOMINGTON — What started out as a get-together with friends at a Bloomington restaurant in 2005 ended in a woman being accused of not paying her tab and a civil lawsuit that opened Monday against the Bloomington police officer who arrested her.

Sarah Lyon, now of Decatur, testified without hesitation about her gender reassignment and the complication her physical complexities posed on March 31, 2005, after her arrest for allegedly leaving Buffalo Wild Wings without paying the bill for food and a beer.

Lyon is suing Officer David Goodman for damages related to the theft charges that were later dropped by the state. The city was dropped from the lawsuit and the restaurant settled with Lyon, according to her lawyer, Jonathan Backman.
