I actually wear this sort of gender-neutralish body spray made by Tokyomilk. I used to wear their scent "Gin and Rosewater" but I think they discontinued it so now I wear one by the same company called "Sparrow" that has a sort of subtle smell to it that I can't quite describe- it's really great though! haha It's sort of a woody kind of smell mixed with a cinnamon-spice kind of thing.

Chanel- Egoist  Platinum for me. I'm not wearing any other perfume, that's the only one that seems to suit me.
Plus, the Axe deodorant Dark Temptation seems to match so well with my own scent that people usually don't know I'm wearing either the Egoist perfume or the deodorant, they just can tell that my smell is "amazing and addictive" , then when I tell them it's because of perfume, they understand.

I think if nobody can tell you're wearing perfume, but they can tell your smell is soo nice... that's the right perfume for you. Stick to it.

I don't spray myself with anything. I just use deodorant/antiperspirant. Currently that's Speed Stick, original Irish Spring sent.

I use Dolce and Gabbana pour homme most days. Its very versatile, suitable for day, night, hot and cold weather. It starts citrusy but becomes warm and, crucially, not obnoxious. Only need 2/3 sprays so it ends up being good value.

Burberry London is unique. I love it but can understand why others might hate it. Most suited to autumn/winter nights.

CKin2u (and most other CKs) are good value and very innofensive smelling.

I personally love Old Spice btw, so much so that I also have the shower gel and bodyspray.

Lynx Africa/Axe Kilo is also popular. I use it occasionally. If something has been around for a long time then its a good indicatior of how popular it is, and how many people repeatedly buy it.

Definately look around Basenotes, as previously mentioned and try the testers in department stores. Basenote users can be a bit snobbish, they will always point you towards a £100+ bottle of Creed Green Irish Tweed over the £20/30 bottle of Davidoff Cool Water. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable using such expensive cologne.

Give 'ACQUA DI GIO' by Giorgio Armani a try. its has a very pleasant clean, crisp masculine scent, yet is sensually alluring too.
(I feel like I'm trying to describe a bottle of wine) 

I never ever got one complaint from any of the women in my life with this one. Even my mother was like, dang you smell nice after I gave her a hug last Xmas. Since its more on the expensive side I wish I could give you guys what I have remaining here, because I only use
'Cashmere Mist' by Donna Karen these days.

Addidas Dare, but at close to a dollar a ml, it's getting into the rather expensive side of things. But I love it and I don't wear it very often, so it lasts.

Edit; oh ->-bleeped-<- it's a lot cheaper in the US like half the cost... smells like bergamot, lime, vanilla, sea breeze accord, apple, lavendar, rhum, leather, sandalwood.

HAHA this is the first cologne I ever bought. I still love the smell but it only lasts for about 5 minutes so I never use it.

I now always use CK Euphoria which smells pretty epic. Love it.

Adidas Sport Green is my daily after-shave (we tend not to call it cologne in the UK). They don't make it any more, so I got 5 bottles of it on ebay - I should be good for some time 

I also have Old Spice in the cabinet, which I wear occasionally. Women seem to prefer the Adidas one though, it's a much more mascauline scent. I find Old Spice smells a bit sweeter than I like. I tend to go for aftershaves that have a touch of a kind of sandalwood/musk smell in them.

I like gourmand type sweet scents (not too sweet though). Some might consider them to be a bit feminine though.

Dirty English is good too. It has a woodsy/leathery smell. It's very masculine and is comparable to Gucci Pour Homme.

La Nuit de L'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent and the original is good too.

I can't stand Aqua Di Gio and Coolwater though. I really dislike those type of scents.

Your best bet is to hit up Sephora and try some scents there. Don't go by the initial scent since it will change over time and with your body chemistry. Spray some on your wrist and walk around for 30 min then decide.

Oh, good advice there. Aftershave takes some time to settle down. At first it can smell horribly strong.

My ginger cat has a very sensitive nose and when I first put mine on in the morning he screws his eyes up and won't come near me ("Dad, you STINK!" being the message.) I have to let it wear off a bit before he'll forgive me.

Nikolai mentioned my 2 tops - Burberry and John Varvatos, although I wear Burberry London which is a little spicier than the Burberry Brit. John Varvatos Black, which is my current scent, is amazing. Almost everyone I hug or come close to -male or female- says something about my cologne.

My favorite place in the world is the cologne wall at Sephora. The other nice thing about Sephora is they have a scent guide, it is sort of an algorithm to help you pick a scent that matches your taste, i.e. woody, citrus, clean, musky, spicy etc etc etc.

If you go into a Sephora they have a sample pack you can purchase. You pick out 5 scents you think you like, they give you testers of those scents and a little coupon towards the purchase of a bottle of whichever you pick.

And if your not looking to spend a bunch of cash on a new scent - I strongly recommend Axe Intense. They say it has the essence of fine leathers, what ever that is supposed to mean. They make deodorant, body wash and spray in the scent, and it really is yummy - my friend who is more of a scent whore than I am was laughing at me for getting some the other day, then she smelled it and bought some herself!

God, Sephora's cologne wall sounds like heaven.  A personal scent sampler would be amazing, the prepackaged ones never have the right assortment for me. I'm an amateur metro scent whore myself. I'm very picky about colognes, and I love observing how the notes change over time. One thing my oversensitive nose is good for, otherwise it's just a pain - especially in public places.

Shayne, thanks for mentioning that site. I'm going to go obsess over it for a while, now.

In the UK the generic term people tend to use for these sorts of things is aftershave for men and perfume for women. It doesn't matter what the strength is (EdP, EdT, etc)

I use A*Men which can smell almost off-puttingly strong on a sample card. It does not work with everyone's body chemistry, but when it does, it smells amazing. Kind of tobacco-musky-chocolatey.

I need to find a secondary cologne, but I love the smell of this stuff on me so I get lazy and just wear it all the time.

My girlfriend got me Aero Sport from Aeropostale... So I wear that. I think it smells alright so I haven't bought anything else yet, plus I still have a lot left. I am a huge fan of cologne though, once I have money to burn I'm going to invest in some fancier smells~

I wouldn't say I use cologne but I like the Axe body spray. Currently I have the Twist and Chocolate sprays. The Chocolate is my favorite and I pair it with Old Spice stick deodorant. All my female friends have to smell me cause I always smell good. I'm not complaining. xD

Remember that a lot of accepting spaces and groups tend to respect the entire PC deal, and part of that is 'scent free / chemical free' environments.

I dont really have a personal favorite yet, still testing em out.

But for body sprays I stick with axe essence.

The most recent cologne ive used was curve wave, and I got many compliments on that.

But back in the day I would use CK BE, my all time favorite.

Its all about personal preference. And how the cologne or spray mixes with your body (oils, sweat, natural smell). You may like the way it smells out of the bottle, but it wont smell the same on you. Or if your friend wears a certain brand, doesnt mean itll smell good with you.

Adidas makes some great smelling stuff. I always get comments from my friends who are girls about how great it smells
