Sigh,
My sister and I are at a hotel east of Tallahassee, Florida and made amazingly good time. About 7.5 hours from downtown Houston to the Florida state line. We also had a great talk along the way and the time seemed to fly by. Bad news is that the check engine light turned on just before we stopped for the night. I tightened the gas cap, but it didn't turn off. I am hoping that it just needs to get on the road for the computer to reset itself. However, if that doesn't work, going to take it to a local AutoZone as they will hook the computer up and tell you what the car computer says is the problem. I hope it isn't anything major as funds are tight and I need my money to get by for awhile until I find some employment. Not to mention I am still 320 miles from my destination. Florida is one long state!
and i know that i'm never alone
and i know that my heart is my home
Every missing piece of me

320 miles to go yet?  Wow, hope everything is ok with your car. Will you be living close to your sister, or is she just accompanying you to your new place?

Yes, and we travelled over 600 miles today. I am really bummed about the car because I just had it in for its 60K mile service on Monday and Texas state inspection and everything checked out.

My sister (she is actually one of three) lives in New York City and she flew down just to accompany me. I am going to live with my mom for awhile as I transition to full time. As it happens, yet another sister lives with my mother, so I will be living very close to at least one sister! After full time, I will be moving on the NYC, as that area is where I grew up and where I have the most friends, family and support. I hope that happens before my mom drives me insane! LOL!

Great to hear that at least you have alot of help from relatives. New York is great, visited Astoria many times with my parents when I was a child. :)

I hope all is well with the car, Melody.  And that you are on the road again.

Sorry, been driving so I didn't update. I'm afraid I had a bit of a blonde moment.  ::) The light that came on last night was the maintenance required light. Since I knew I was going on this long road trip, I had the car checked our for its 60k mile service even though it was at 59K miles and change. So last night the odometer clicked over to 60K miles and the little automatic maintenance required light turned on to indicate I should get an oil change. I freaked and thought it was the check engine light. So, uh, my bad. LOL! So I used the magic of the internet to figure out how to turn it off and all was well. Still, it was quite a relief. Thanks for asking!

I am 2 miles from my mom's house now. Journey almost over and also just beginning!

All's well that ends well... Glad the car didn't present any major issue and you've made it alright

Glad you're home, Melody.  Best of luck as you move forward.  I make my move at the end of the month.  I don't have nearly as far to go as you, but the emotional distance will be huge.  I'm glad I'll have Simone nearby for comfort.  Sort of like Laverne & Shirley, then morphing into Three's Company.  Hope we don't get canceled in the first season, lol...

Those shows ran for a very long time, so I hope you have similar luck! Nine miles or nine-hundred, the emotional chasm from our old life to new is the same. I haven't quite shaken the feeling that I am on vacation and will be returning home at some point. I will try to have a good cry tonight and maybe share a few drinks with the sis. I mentioned to her that I have never been drunk (I was always deathly afraid of what I might say) and it just seemed if there was ever a time to do it, this is it!

I loved talking to my sis for all that time in the car. Honestly, I have never been a such a long road trip that seemed to fly by. The most important development of the trip was that she came up with a nickname for me that she liked. My middle name will be Maia (pronounced Maya) and my sister and many friends prefer that to Melody. I made a joke about there now being four sisters and no boys in the family and combined that with the similarity to my name to say we were a YaYa sisterhood. She really liked that and has decided to call me YaYa. A little in-joke between sisters.

Take it to your local AutoZone. They will tell you what your car computer says is the problem and best part is that it is free! FYI, most states won't let you pass inspection if that light is on. Not to mention that your car could suddenly quit on you and leave you stranded somewhere.
