My GRS surgery will be on June 7, 2011 with Dr. Sherman Leis. It was suggested that i have electrolysis done on my scrotal tissue before the date.

Does it hurt and how much needs to be zapped?

I'm kind of embarrass to ask my current electrologist to do the procedure because she been doing my face for awhile. So I'm curious in how it actually get done. Like is there a special table or special panties one has to wear before and during the procedure.

It's all an awkward subject to bring up.

I've just come back from my first session of genital electrolysis. It was almost completely painless but that probably has something to do with the injected local anaesthetic I was given. I would recommend that if you can get it because I imagine it's fairly bad without.

As for the amount; that depends on your physical attributes and the method your surgeon is using. You'll have to ask i'm afraid. You might see if they can recommend a specialist electrologist too.

First of all, congratulations on your surgery date!  I'm kind of surprised Dr. Leis doesn't have specific instructions for this.  The surgeons I consulted all had fairly strong opinions about it and spelled out what they wanted.

Here is what Marci says on her website:  http://marcibowers.com/grs/prepare.html  There is a link there with a rough diagram of what the operator will need to clear.  Please note, do not clear the entire scrotal sac!  You will want some of the hair on the outer areas to cover up scars.  (you really should pin Leis down on exactly what he wants)

To answer your other question, yes, it hurts like hell... if you don't use numbing cream.  Either get an EMLA prescription from your doc, or else ask your electrologist if they have lidocaine for sale.  I really didn't have a problem with the pain when I used EMLA, it was naptime.  I would consult your electrologist about how to apply it.  No special panties needed, just your garden variety plastic wrap.

5-6 months is a pretty short time to permanently clear that area (see Marci's discussion about hair cycles).  I'm not sure anyone would guarantee you hair-free for that short of time.  But with the right person, I think you could a lot of it.  With your skin pigmentation, I'm not sure laser would be a good option.

Even though I have a fairly high tolerance for pain, I recommend that you seek out some sort of analgesia for that procedure.  It helped me, (EMLA) but if you can get something stronger like Cassie did, go for it. What got me through it was knowing that I would be rewarded with my SRS.

When you had electrolysis, did the therapist or technician recommend any pain reliever cream? Did he/she offer local anesthesia or do we have to know that in advance? Thank you.

My technician sold me a lidocaine based cream for this, but I found it to be hit or miss as far as pain relief went. You really have to put the saran wrap over that area after applying the cream to make it work right, about an hour before your session. If you can find a doctor to inject you, that's ideal, but you have to get to your session before it wears off.

Honestly, that was torture for me. But, when it's done, it's done. And then you get to go and say "Yeah I did that!" and wear it like a badge of dedication.

As I tell people in the non-TG world "You really have to want this!". 

Dr. Leis just requires the hair to be removed on the scrotal sac.

I had my first electrolysis appt for down there and used 2.5% lidocane. It was hit or miss, sometime it would smart and burn and other time just a minor pinch and tug. I did go and get a prescription for 4% lidocane.

I had laser and electrolysis six months before my surgery. I got a prescription for Emla cream and I would put that on the given area and then have to wrap my genital area in cling film. Felt bizarre but I hardly felt a thing. It has to be applied 1 to 2 hours before the appointment. I found laser and electrolysis the best way forward as electrolysis can take up to a year so there's no regrowth.

If you go to dr.mcginns website theres a wonderful woman named lori , who does amazimg work ,and dr.mcginn will give you anesthesia so you dont feel a. thing , well at least until the next day lol lol
