'Sex and Violence' and exploitation

Making Porn author Ronnie Larsen has a new play, this one called Sex and Violence. Now getting its world premiere at tiny Empire Stage in Fort Lauderdale, the play centers on what its title suggests, with promotional materials touting the fact that the script is inspired by the true story of a transsexual who kept a corpse in her closet for 15 years.

"Inspired," however, isn't the right word to apply to Sex and Violence. Larsen's play, with a plethora of fleeting scenes that suggest he really wanted to write a movie script, interweaves several stories involving a blocked bestselling novelist, his crass husband-wife publishing team, a pair of transsexual entertainers and the guy destined to wind up in that closet. Larsen takes that nugget of truth and pushes it to bizarre, credulity-testing extremes.
