I have been so caught up in the drama of the move/divorce that I forgot to post a bit of positive news. I went for a run in my old neighborhood just before I left. I passed several women on the run and they all smiled at me as I went by. The last one even smiled and waved at me. Women don't usually smile at me like that and I read on here how women smile at each other when they pass each other in public and men tend to give "the nod." Of course, dumbass me gave "the nod" back to the last girl who smiled and waved, but I was caught a bit off-guard and I fell back on old habits. D'oh! Gotta unlearn that one. I think my new eyebrows have fem'ed up my face quite a bit along with the HRT.
and i know that i'm never alone
and i know that my heart is my home
Every missing piece of me
I can find in a melody

A nod?    No No No.  I catch myself doing the same thing every once in awhile.  It is a hard habit to break.  But I think you are correct.  They read you as female.

Oh lordy, don't remind me. I wanted to face-palm myself after I did it. Took the glow off a bit of what I realized had just been a significant moment for me. Ugh!  ::)

Don't worry about it.  Just keep your head high, Sis.  Remember it for next time.

Really?? Nodding is a guy thing?  I have always done ... good to know that I have always done masculine things - at least I won't have to relearn everything I have been conditioned to do

Don't worry about the screw up ... your just starting to come into yourself completely ... it will come

Melody, I just have to tell you it's okay, I go above and beyond my allowed facepalmable offenses every day.

And, I have to say I never realized nodding was a male gesture. I do it quite often.

The guy nod is this quick nod when you make eye contact, and doesn't usually accompany a smile (although lately I've been doing both nod and smile)

I catch myself still doing the nod, but I'm trying really hard to JUST smile instead - so I end up doing both in a moment of confusion. It's hard to break the 'automatic' stuff.

I don't think i've ever done the nod...I always used to smile at girls and just avoid eye contact with men.

And I think that is typical female behavior. If you smile at a guy it can be taken as an invitation. Depending on how attracted you are this might be the desired result!

Gawd - do the rest of the world really analyse each other to that extent?  :P

I honestly don't even know if I nod or wave when I meet people - I think I do a bit of both and indeed probably to both sexes exactly the same - so god knows what people make of me. I guess I am just gender blind.

I either do a combination of smile and nod, though I find myself more exchanging nods with males. It really depends on the initial vibe I get whether I do one, the other, or both.

Hehe yeah I still nod and raise my eyebrows in greeting sometimes darnit. It drives me crazy. But with women out and about, I do tend to smile. I'm often surprised when some dont smile back....but most do =)
