Today is my friend's 21st birthday, and some of us are going out to bars to celebrate.  It'll be my first time out at a bar since I went full time, and since my girlfriend doesn't care for this group of friends she won't be with me either.  Any tips for passing, specifically those related to being carded?  I don't drink, but some of the places in the area card at the door and some don't.  I REALLY don't want to have to go in boy mode, but I also don't want any trouble over an ID with a gender mismatch.

Sadly, doesn't help me get in, or give me something to show the cop that pulls me over with the car full of drunks.  =p
I get that if they ARE carding at the door there's not much choice, but has anyone had any experience with there being a problem with ID not matching presentation?

Yes, it's happened to me. Nothing you can do except politely explain yourself and hope they understand, or move on to another bar.

Lots of clubs will not let you in w/o an ID, liquor licences are far more expensive than any persons tab over the coarse of an evening.  In some places like Minneapolis it's against the law not to card everyone entering a bar or nightclub.

I always had a fake ID for that, until the ID shop went out of business.  But even expired, my fake ID usually gets me in.

The law in CO is that you have to have your ID, not that you have to allow it to be inspected.  So showing that you have it, at a distance not close enough to be read, and clearly being of drinking age; that has worked for people I know.

There is probably nothing in your state law about how you have to present for your drivers license picture.  Get cutified, tell the DMV you lost your license, get a new pic.  Most bouncers are gonna look at the pic and birthday, and end of story.

Smile at the bouncers obvious look of confusion and then say in your best girly voice "sorry, that's an old photo"

Seriously, they don't care who you are, just that you're of a legal drinking age

I used my guy ID all the time.  It's true they really don't care.  One bartender didn't believe it was me, so I had to drop my voice and say, "I lost a bet..."  Problem solved.

I never use to have a problem. They would just quickly glance at my ID and that was it.
But even if they don't say anything or make any faces, they obviously know the deal.
Be careful when going to use the restroom. I got kicked out once by the owner for
going to the ladies room while my ID said male.

Didn't have any problem, he didn't even check the picture to my face.
And JenJen, I never use public bathrooms regardless.  They're gross.

True story.  The bouncer just shrugged and waved me through.

Worst I've ever gotten was a long stare at the ID, followed by a long stare at me, back to the ID, then to me again, a shrug and that was it. There have been a time or two where they just checked the age and that was it, no biggie.

It occurs to me I've been to bars/clubs far more often as female than male, odd. I don't drink anyhow, or dance..... still too up in my head to dance.
