Obama on LGBT though not LGBTI rights

THERE is a certain sad irony in President Obama issuing an otherwise welcome and supportive comment on the recent murder of Ugandan LGBTI human rights activist David Kato, as reported in LGBTI website African Activist.

"LGBT rights are not special rights; they are human rights. My Administration will continue to strongly support human rights and assistance work on behalf of LGBT persons abroad. We do this because we recognize the threat faced by leaders like David Kato, and we share their commitment to advancing freedom, fairness, and equality for all."

Editorial comment:

THAT is LGBTI, not LGBT – there is a fundamental difference. LGBTI tacitly recognizes that intersex people exist and implies we may not have human rights. LGBT glosses over that fact and in reality aids and supports the ongoing global persecution of intersex people.
