To my understanding, T pretty much knocks out "normal" functions down there while you're on it after a few months.  Is there any risk of becoming pregnant during this time?

Definitely yes!

Thanks kat.  I can't imagine it being a possible situation for me, but that's good to know just in case.

T is not a contraceptive, nor does it protect you from any disease.

I was thinking that, as it shuts down menstruation, it may stop ovulation as well, as they use similar hormonal triggers.

Well it dose shut down menstruation but it dosen't do it very well hence why there is a risk for you guys.

Non-normal functioning is still functioning, IMHO.  It's better to not take chances.

My endocrinologist told me directly that pregnancy is still very possible while on T.

I've been told the same thing.

Don't think you would be completely safe from pregnancy until hysto.

I saw a documentary on a couple ... an mtf who had been on hormones for 5 years and believed she was shooting blanks per se ... and her partner was a ftm ... and had just started taken T ... like six months ... needless to say they go pregnant.

i saw the doc too...i think it was a discovery channel hour long special but i can't remember what it was called either

i think you guys are thinking of the hour long documentary that was on the discovery health channel called transgendered and pregnant. i remember his name was Kai and hers Emily but not entirely sure. she was on hormones for 8 years and him only a few months and they didn't find out til he was 7 months along. a few months after it premiered on some special, obgyns from a show on the same channel called it a "medical miracle." i only saw that part from a commercial clip though...your going to think I'm obsessed lol no. i remember watching the actual documentary on it's premiere. um....november....09? i miss that channel, it had Dr. G. mystery diagnosis, shows about transgendered people. now it's the OWN network which we don't have for whatever reason so now we don't have either dangit. i like watching medical stuff.

Oh crap, this is something I actually need to know this since I'm with a biological male. I'm allergic to latex and spermicide, so what birth control can I use until I get my reproductive organs removed?

You can buy polyurethane condoms. The major condom brands like Durex, Lifestyles and Trojan all make polyurethane condoms without spermicide. There is also the option of the female condom. Keep in mind that polyurethane are prone to more breakage and slippage than latex and are slightly more expensive.

I also wouldn't recommend the lambskin because slightly more porous material. It has been shown to be effective in blocking sperm but it's less effective against STDs.

We've done the polyurethane condoms. They don't make them that big, so they don't fit his penis too well XP. I'd keep buying lambskin since I'm not worried about STDs with him, but they're expensive @_@. I'll look into the female condom (ah! Name!). Hopefully it's more available here than where I moved from XP.

Have a bio  female friend one ovary removed. Ectopic pregnancy blew the other Fallopian, he had a vasectomy and she was on low dose contraceptives. No detectable sperm count. She got pregnant to him. All sad because they have a genetic disease so foetus was checked and sadly aborted.

Darth can you get tubes tied prior to removal? It would be cheaper?

The FC seems like it might be awkward to use. I'm pretty sure most all of them are polyurethane though. I do hope that in the future they make more sizes of the polyurethane because there are quite a lot of people with mild to serious latex allergies.

Good luck finding something that works for you though! Contraceptive shopping can be so annoying -.- so many different things, sizes, shapes, colors, etc. Lol.
