The second stage of the world's most massive population count is scheduled to roll from February 9. The first stage measured the particulars of households in India, and the second stage will note individual details of the population.
Among the firsts in this census is the inclusion of transgenders in the count. The enumerator's work sheet will no longer class each individual as either male or female; it will have a check for those claiming a transgender identity.
The enumerators have been trained to ask the question with no sign of embarrassment and showing no bias or prejudice.

The importance attached to the move can be gauged from the fact that it is among the top 10 questions.
