I'm at student at the University of Guadalajara, currently just starting 2nd semester. Today I found out that my school has a lot of agreements with multiples universities around the world, many of them are great schools.

Two of the schools listed, which are the ones that interest me the most, are:

* University of California, Los Angeles
* University of California, Berkeley

Would you take a chance like this if you could? I would really talk with my dad to see if he could support me to do this. He might not be so happy about me transitioning but... my education? lol

What do you think? Would you do it? and if so, which one and why?

I think it's always a good thing to go somewhere new, no matter how you get there. It really opens your eyes to the world outside of your comfort zone.
So I say go for it.

To see and live in a different country, at a young age, would be a great thing.  And it would get you away from Mom and Dad.  And you could begin transition.

Berkely for preference... get that on your transcript and you're gold, pretty much

Gender issues aside, it sounds like a good idea to me.  You'd get a chance to check out a new area and live on your own for a bit.  I have a couple of friends at UC Berkely who really like it. 

What is your major?

Berkeley would be more different for you than LA would.  (LA being the second largest Spanish speaking city after Mexico City - that's right, more people speak Spanish in LA than all the people in Madrid or Barcelona.)

I'm studying Electronics and communications engineering. IDK how colleges work on the US but here you choose a career path, you study a bunch of subjects every semester related to your career and once you're done, you graduate, and after that you get your degree either by average scoring (from 90/100 to 100/100), thesis, CENEVAL test or Thesis.

Anyway, I talked with my dad today over the phone and told him about this idea, he likes it and I got his support for this

Berkeley has a much better program in electronics and engineering than UCLA.

Well I don't know about that, but I do know the Cali uni system pretty well, and as Cindy knows all colleges and universities are not equal in all things.  And the way the Cal system is structured it divides up those special areas, so UCLA is a much better school for bio and med, Berkeley for physics, electronics and the like.  If you want to film/TV a degree from Berkeley is close to worthless, but from UCLA it's like gold.

But... The University of California at Berkeley is one of the top schools in the world.  All the students there were in the top 1% of their class, awesome SAT/ACT scores, and a straight 4.0 GPA from high school is not necessarily good enough to get in.  So, suffice it to say, the competition is brutal.  But I imagine it is in the pre-med stuff or psychology at UCLA too.
