Transgender Artist Explains How Lyon-Martin Loss Could Devastate The Community

Despite rumors of imminent closure, the Lyon-Martin Health Services, a clinic that is vital to the San Francisco transgender community, is still holding on. But just barely. Astonishingly, the community that rallied around the financially troubled heath center has managed to raise more than $250,000 in two weeks, more than the $250,000 goal for the month.

However, the clinic really need to raise twice as much to stay afloat. Fundraisers are scheduled around San Francisco, as city officials try to figure out how the Lyon-Martin ended up in this mess.

Transgender artist and activist Tee pled the case for Lyon-Martin in his cheeky slideshow at the Sins Invalid Artist-in-Residence show last month, wherein he mocked up Craig's List ads offering "Boobs 4 Sale." Tee, who is also disabled, is on the Community Advisory Panel for Project H.E.A.L.T.H. (a collaboration of Lyon-Martin, the Transgender Law Center, and Equality California) and the Community Advisory Board of the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium, of which Lyon Martin is a member. He is also a member of the San Francisco council of Project H.E.A.L.T.H.
