I was in the computer labs the other day OMG actually doing my work when a couple of what I think were either sociology or psychology students doing there work also sat down next to me they were talking about the work discussing what to put in the essay and such and it was alittle unusual for me because the essay they were doing was about Gender identity disorder and social issues of gender variance.

It was just odd as I did my work to overhear them occasionally discuss transsexuallity with me sat right next to them O-o
I didn't say anything obviously it wouldn't be appropriate just me slyly grinning.

Has anyone else been in a situation where people start talking about transsexuals without knowing that you are one?

Yes on many many occasions.

Sometimes I will chip in too. VERY occasionally I have also deliberately outed myself - usually if one party to the discussion is making such a complete arse of the topic that I want to put them straight without fear contradiction.

On many such occasions I have then ended up having to convince people that it isn't a wind up. It has been hilariously funny to see peoples expressions when they suddenly realise that I am not joking and I really am a long term postop.

A few times. I've yet to overhear people saying good things about transness. But at least I know to avoid them.

Yup!

One time I was in a coffee shop with a few local ladies when some girls from the local college sat down right next to us and started working on an LGBT presentation for their class.  Eventually one of us went over and talked to them for like 30 mins.  Was kind of a cute experience because it was obviously just a coincidence, but it ended well and the girls got some education out of it.

Yeah at work actually. I work with this girl and she is known to well, sleep around, and she started saying that she wants to date a pre-op MTF because she says that she 'would miss the penis too much" in contrast to dating I guess a ciswoman. I was kind of like :| then said that a transgendered woman probably wouldn't like to be reminded of her downstairs situation.

Another time she told me secrets about her life and said for me not to tell anyone and I said that I wouldn't, and if I ever told her secrets about my life I wouldn't want her to tell anyone. And she asked what my secrets were and I said they were just stupid things and she said "what? do you have a vagina " (at that point I must have had an oh ->-bleeped-<- look on my face) " and a penis?"

There are other situations where she makes jokes about that type of stuff. Even on occasion she actually likes to joke that I am homosexual or makes jokes about my penis. But she has no idea that I am a pre-op FTM and don't even have one :/ hahah ugh I just don't even know what to say.
The story is the same, I've just personalized the name.

I was in my drafting class, and a group of guys starting talking about how they hated transsexuals and would beat up anyone who was... Very awkward and nervous moment lol

Yes and the topic is becoming more frequent now than it was in the past.  When I was around to hear those conversations, I just basically listened and rarely did I ever make a contribution, beyond that is interesting and if that is what they want then, good on them. At the same time I was listening, I would often say to myself "if you only knew".

Or the classic conversation with a bunch of girls saying. "I wonder what it would be like to have a penis for a day?".  To which I would say, "I would hate to have a penis for a day" and shudder while I was saying it.  Those conversations were so bloody funny.

Kind regards
Sarah B

Fata Morgana

Once about a year ago at school I was talking with two girls during a lunch break about various things when suddenly the topic of "weird" people came into discussion.

One of these girls said that she cannot understand why a person would want to "change their gender".

Both of them are oblivious to the fact that I'm transgender.
I just don't think they need to know such a thing 'cause were not really friends. Just sometimes happen to bump into each other and discuss random things.

So it felt really weird sitting there after she said that. I really couldn't reply to that so I just carried on the conversation to another topic. They still have no clue about me.

Between classes me and a few classmates were just standing around talking and smoking. This one guy suddenly remembered that in his class earlier there was a FTM who randomly showed up with a fake beard. It wasn't over a break, not even a weekend. It went form nothing on Monday to "cat hair beard" on Wednesday. He said he didn't even notice they were trans before this. Overall everyone seemed more bothered that they shaved a cat or something verses them being trans.

I went to a high school for fundamentalist Christians. When the whole Thomas Beatie thing first happened there was some transphobic talk.
