I've been trying to get onto T for over a year now, and been knocked back a few times. As it stands at the moment, my only two options are to get online counseling and get a T letter that way, or to wait a year until I can go back to my old back-stabbing cow of a psychiatrist. I read on here that a lot of guys have done their counseling and gotten a letter from Melissa Leonhardt. However, when I made the decision to work with her she informed me I had to be eighteen, and at that point I still had to wait a few weeks until my birthday. In the meantime I discussed it with my mother and she said she would send an email to my endo just to check if a letter from someone in the states would stand in Australia.

Well today I got a letter back from him in the mail. He didn't mention at all whether her qualifications were acceptable in Australia (which I suspect they are), and only said that he wouldn't accept a letter from her because he hasn't worked with her before. He demands I get a letter from someone he knows, which is...let's see...oh yes! The two people I've seen so far who have been 1.) A lying, back-stabbing cow and 2.) A condescending prig!

How can he DO that?! I don't understand! If she is qualified, shouldn't he have to accept it?! It's HER job to decide whether I'm fit for T or not, not his! He's basically condemned me to another year like this and I can't stand how frigging angry I am right now!!! I want to argue with him on this, but do I have any right? Are there any kind of laws or guidelines that would work in my favour in getting him to just accept the god damn letter?!

I'm so angry and upset it's actually hard to breath. Please some help on this?

I'm really sorry you're going through this.  I wish I knew more about the process for getting T and everything, but I haven't done any of that yet, so I don't know.

Hopefully some other people who actually know something will comment, but until then,  :icon_hug:

And just remember that even though waiting really sucks, someday you will get T.

That really sucks. I'm sorry I can't offer advice, but I really hope it gets better for you. Keep positive - it will get better!  :icon_hug:

Is there a possibility of studying aboard for a semester?  Maybe going a semester abroad to a place that has informed consent and then just getting it transfered to your home care.

Is there another doctor besides the endo you contacted that can prescribe you T? The first doctor I went to after I got my letter was a prick that was going to make me spend 800$ on a psychological evaluation before he would give me T, so I switched docs.

According to my GP there are only two endos in my city, the one I go to, and an old horrible man who hates the idea of anyone being trans. My GP openly warned me about it and told me not to go and see him. So no, there isn't another doctor I can go to. :(

And I can't study abroad either, A. Because I can't afford it, and B. Because I'm out of school. So that's not really an option either. :(

I'm just so frustrated that after all of this time, effort and money that I can simply be stopped because my doctor says 'oh no, I don't like that person' and decides to completely ignore their qualifications! Please someone with more experience help me out here! Please!

The woman I get my prescription from is a GP. And the man I saw before her was a Gyno. So maybe there are other kinds of doctors not just endos in your area that would be willing to work with you?

I'm going to second Morgans question because I got my T prescription from a family practice doctor.

MaxAloysius

Can they do that? It was my GP who told me I would need to see an endocrynologist in the first place ??? So if I was to get a letter for T, I can just give it to a GP and they will be able to prescribe it for me?

Any doctor who is comfortable prescribing T can with exceptions of like a foot doctor or something like that. At least that's how it works in the US. If your doctor sent you to an endo he might not be comfortable with prescribing it for you but that doesn't mean another doctor can't. I just called around and said I have my letter I'm transgender, is there a doctor there who would be willing to start me on Testosterone. It took calling a lot of places but it was worth it and easier than paying the gynecologist who starts guys on T but charges $150 more a visit than my doctor does.

MaxAloysius

Awesome then! I'll have to go back to my GP and see if she'd be willing to start me. And yeah, going through her would be a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than an endo :P She was the first one I consulted over a year ago about being trans, so she should understand that I'm serious about it. Hopefully she will say yes!

Al least now I have a little hope back, so thanks :)
