My niece wrestled in Junior Olympics against boys.  At the time she hadn't yet developed breasts but she was required to wear all the equipment the boys wore including a jock strap.  Her father was a high school wrestler.

She gave up wrestling to take up cross country, soccer, track and gymnastics where she competed on the uneven parallel bars while recovering from anterior ligament knee surgery.

She is currently working on her Doctorate in Sports Medicine and as far as I know no boy ever refused to wrestle her in a match and yes she did place wins over some of the boys.

The way he talks about this he gives off the impression he regularly beats the everliving out of the people he wrestles. I've seen some wrestling, but I've never seen it get downright violent. I may not have a good understanding of what goes on in wrestling, but other than some strange in-bred 'don't hit girls, ever' I don't see why he'd refuse. It's a bit baffling.

Ah, girls and boys wrestling each other.  It brings back sweet memories.

I started a high school wrestling website when my son entered high school.  It took off like a rocket and before I knew it I was the spokesperson and ambassador for high school wrestling in my home state.  And the subject of boys wrestling girls was hotter than the subject of stealth on T forums.

I watched a few kids refuse to wrestle girls but most boys went ahead and wrestled.  For boys, it's a no win proposition.  If you win, so what, she's a girl.  If you lose, you're toast.  Imagine being a high school wrestler and seeing this pretty face on the other side of the mat.  And chances were, she'd beat you.

I saw one girl in her 8th grade step out onto the mat.  She was very well endowed.  My daughter (who wrestled freshman year in high school) said with sharp criticism, "She's not even binding! What is she thinking!"  The boy who wrestled her had a field day.  He probably got more that day than he had gotten in his entire life.  And it was very obvious his holds were intentional because they had nothing to do with wrestling holds.

As for this kid, I never once saw a wrestler walk away from a match with a girl when advancement to the state level was on the line.  And I've seen thousands of matches.  Of all the boys I've talked to about this and of all the boys who participated on my forums (there was hundreds of conversations about this), every one said no way would they ever forfeit a match just because it was a girl they were facing.  Most talk was they wanted to crush her and hope she left the sport for good. 

But I guess when religion enters into the picture, anything can happen.

There is no prohibition in the Hebrew/Christian traditions that adress a man being violent to women.
If anything it encourages it.

The years I was in high school wrestling the uniforms were tight tank top type tops with a bottom which went though the ctotch from behind and fastened to the bottom  of the  shirt in the front.  We wore tights  which a tight pair of shorts were worn.  We all wore a jock strap although some guys also wore regular underwear.  Nowadays I shudder watching them wrestle in tops and shorts only. 

Our high school had no sports for girls other than cheerleading.

Wrestling isn't a sport of physical violence although some holds come close to violence in my view.  The goal is to control the other person either working to win on points for escapes, takedowns and nearfalls or to win by a pin itself.  It is an exercise in using your skills to control the other person.

The taboo with wrestling girls is placing your hands and arms through her crotch and driving the shoulders in a chest to chest contact going for a pin.  Although I can't say I enjoyed grabbing a guys crotch for some moves.

My son played basketball in high school and a couple of times the boys played the girls team in practices on weekends. One thing different is guys guard opponents by placing their hand on the other opponent's chest.  So my son's friend was guarding a well endowed member of the girls team and subconciously reached out to  guard with his hand, getting a handfull of boob whereupon he turned red faced.  She smarly drove the ball around him as he stood speechless going in for a layup shot.

My son wrestled from 1995-2004, through his senior year in high school. All the kids wore singlets. In grade school some of the kids wore tights but that was rarely seen in high school. Knee pads were fairly common but jock straps weren't. All the girls I saw wrestle wore a t-shirt under their singlet. School sanctioned wrestling was referred to as folkstyle. Their singlet was different that what you see in the Olympics. It was more like boyshorts with a t-shirt, sewn together.

In the offseason, most kids wrestled freestyle and Greco-Roman, the styles you see in the Olympics. Freestyle was more common than Greco. Their singlets were basically jam shorts with shoulder straps. The girls still wore t-shirts.

What seemed so obvious to me didn't seem to be so obvious to other parents, any sport that has moves such as the "high crotch", probably should separate the genders after puberty hits.

A wrestler in high school was mad at me for comparing guy's wrestling outfits to girls gymnastic outfits so he wrestled me to the ground... But then he looked confused and gave up when I smiled and batted my eyes at him... Then he was really mad because the guys in the locker room made fun of him for getting a boner

I tried to talk to him later but he was still mad and tried to hit me... Then he would give me evils every time he saw me so I just avoided him

My stepdad started teaching me martial arts because some guys tried to rape me in the shower... We moved a short while later
