Hello guys and dolls,
Well, I watched the Dr. Phil show today with my mother, and I regret doing so.
The part about the FtM in question not being 'ready' to make this decision.
Oh gawd. ::)
Dr. Phil decides he's not ready for transition based solely on the fact that he doesn't forsee relationship problems. Go ahead and say it, Dr. Phil - all you're thinking about is the fact that this man doesn't have a penis and women will presumedly be upset about this.
Again - it all comes down to sex. The first thought in people's minds is always - "But how will he have sex?"
And of course, my mother had to agree with Dr. Phil. - "well, that would be hard for a woman to meet a guy and find out he was born female."
Look, I'm not in the business of 'tricking' women, okay?
This is why people think transsexuals are sick. This is why people have such strong objections to it.
Because all they think about is the sexual aspect.
I mean, should I remain female because it's easier for me to have sex? Because I won't have to explain anything?
There IS more to life than sex.
This is not about sex! This is about who I am!
If all I cared about was sex, and the ease of finding sexual partners, I'd remain female.
So basically, I spent the next hour in a futile attempt to explain to my mother that I DO realize the difficulties ahead, and that it won't be as easy for me sex-wise as it was as a female.
Thank you, Dr. Phil. ::)
Now my mother is worried about me transitioning. She's worried I won't be happy.

As soon as I read the title (I read the reviews on here last night) I knew it was bad.  I'm so sorry that she had to be mis-educated by him.  I think almost everyone of us here agrees he did a major disservice for everyone here.

I think Dr. Phil is just afraid of competition with a man, who unlike himself, DOESN'T think with his penis.

Discovery Health Channel is re-running their two "Sex Change" shows this saturday night.

The "Him To Her" one is pretty good, showing Annah Moore and Elizabeth who I think make great representatives of what this is all about (though Annah emphasizes the sex part a bit too much). It includes a f2m who is pretty cool too, though he sometimes seems obsessed with becoming a male stereotype. STILL, overall, it's reasonably educational and might help. Jamison Green is in it too, though not as a story.

If I remember, the "Her to Him" show is educational, but if it's the same guy I remember, he seems very... hostile? Uncomfortable? Unsure? So I'd be careful with that one.

  As I mentioned in the "Dr. Phil" thread I believe this show potentially caused more damage than anything.  Not only to the guests on the show but to the millions of Dr. Phil fans who take his words as gospel.  While Dr. Phil has yet to reach Jerry Springer status I believe this show had the same basic effect.

Not quite.  Dr. Phil was MUCH MORE direct about making transsexuals look bad, whereas Jerry only implies it by having bad examples on his show.

 :icon_lemon:  < --- my show review for the doc!! LOL
  seriously though, Nero is an exact example of what I predicted was to happen to our society and i have been seething. I am working on an e-mail to the doc at least to vent at him. If I knew he could have an open mind I'd tell him to link into here to meet some of the greatest and sweetest people in the world I ever met. Maybe then he would get a light bulb lighting over his head.

any supposedly transexual person who would have a more fuffiling life as their birth gender than their mental gender sans genitalia are NOT trans, dr phil is not transexual and thus he can't understand that at all.

Ask any mtf if they'd rather life as a man or as a woman without a vagina and the choice is so so clear how good SRS for ftm and mtf people does not effect one bit the need to transition.

Nevermind the fact that I know multiple 100% straight women who've had VERY fuffilling sexual relationships with ftm people who've just had top surgery.

There was one documentary, I think it was the one her to him, not sure. They interviewed a mtof and her name is Michelle. I know her and she had her surgery just last year. She is a beautiful woman and is in stealth. We have coffee everyonce in a while, it has been a while now, I should call her up for update on both of us. I see her driving to work every now and again. I think she looks at every bus driver as she saw me one time. If you see her on one of the shows, it was in San Fransico and she had just come out when she did the documentary. She has red hair and she is petite, dang her. I mean she is beautiful.
