Hello everyone! I'm in search of an answer to a question I have which is. Where/how do I get on T?! I've gotten so many different answers that I have no idea which is right. I've been told that planned parenthood offers T so I called and they said yes but I need a evaluation from a therapist. So I called about 50(no lie) and they all said they don't offer evaluations for hormone treatment. So then I was told I could go to any regular doctor and get it. I've called 2 and they said no. I was also referred to an endocronologist and have yet to call them. I'm 17 and will be 18 in 2 months I have full support from my family and have the insurance/money to get it I just have no clue where to go. I'm tired of running into dead ends. Someone please help me. Btw I live in Oklahoma incase anyone here knows of a place that can help here. Thanks!

The thing is that there are many answers. You can go through informed consent or you can get a letter and then get a prescription. My doctor who gave me the prescription was a family practice doctor. I've heard of gynos, general practice, and endos being able to start you on hormones.

I had to call over 50 doctors even after having my letter to find one. Just keep calling around man. Don't give up hope. Checking in with your nearest glbt center could help because they may have suggestions for you. If your interested in getting the letter then just call as many psychologists/psychiatrists as you can find. Also, where I'm at I find that a lot of "sex therapists" tend to handle transgender/transsexual patients so that might help? I'll see if I can help find anyone specific for you. Good luck :)

Edit: Here's a link for trans friendly therapists just look up your state http://www.drbecky.com/therapists03.html

Thanks a ton for your repl :) I guess I'm gonna have to drive to a different city for a letter. when you say "letter" though does that mean approval from a therapist? Sometimes I get scared that they don't understand what I'm saying when I call and ask if they do evaluations for hormones and they just say no because they don't know. Would it be okay if I asked for a eevaluation without telling them its for hormones?

Not a problem man :) I use the term letter because when a therapist approves your ready to start hormones they will write you a letter that you can take to a doctor so the doctor knows your "mentally healthy" or however you want to put it to start hormones. I've never heard of an evaluation but it sounds like it's basically the same thing. They want you evaluated and I would guess your therapist will give you a paper of some sort saying you passed the evaluation.

As for the last question, technically yes that would be okay. My only fear with that would be that since your taking the time to drive to another city I would hate to see you drive all the way there to find out they won't do it. It's all about what you're comfortable with though, if you think that is best than go for it.

I found an endocrinologist and called them up and asked them if they did Testosterone. They told me yes and that I needed a referral from my doctor to get an appointment. So if you found a endo doctor, just give your regular doctor the endo doctors number or fax number and if your regular doctor is cool with it he/she should make a referral for you to get an appointment with the endo doctor.
