Right or wrong, if you want attention for a cause, paint some signs, call a protest, make a scene. Chances are, the media will stick a microphone in your face.

As a reporter, I've been sent off to scores of protests big and small.

Today's column is about a protest I intended to write about, but didn't.

Several years ago, the newsroom got a call about a sit-in at Central High School in support of transgendered rights. The caller practically whispered the tip into the phone.
