What Do You Mean I Need To Move To San Francisco?

Was perusing FB when I read a comment from Kim Pearson (yes, THE Kim Pearson) about how her child and his friends were told by a homophobe at a bookstore they were minding their own business in that they should all 'move to San Francisco'.

Excuse me?

I've heard that crap before, too.   The last time I had that comment uttered at me I told the person "This is the United States, and I can and will live anywhere I wish to live that makes me happy."

Must be some kind of mental disorder.  A well meaning former co-worker told me the same thing.  I think he was trying to simply suggest I may not be subjected to the prejudice and discrimination he saw me getting at work.  He had said earlier that my coming out as trans exposed the ignorant.  But still, it kind of hurt.
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

I live a bit south from SF, but if I really did live there, I'd be just as offended at this.  I go to SF about twice a year, and have loved it every time I have been there.  The point is though, that it would make a horrible "trans ghetto" just as any place would!  We do not need "ghetto's" or "pales" even if they were pretty and comfortable, we need lives when and where we choose to live them.

Wiser now about Post Op reality!!

I've met Kim Pearson. She came down to Texas to a hick suburb of Houston and told the school officials at a HS there what's what. The woman is fearless. She is beyond awesome.
and i know that i'm never alone
and i know that my heart is my home
Every missing piece of me
I can find in a melody
